Vasemmistoliitto ateisteja vastaan

Vasemmistoiliiton eduskuntaryhmä on antanut lausuntonsa perusopetuksen tuntijakotyöryhmän selvityksestä.

Tässä tiedoksi uskonnonopetusta koskeva osa:

"Uskonnon opetus tulee Vasemmistoliiton mielestä korvata elämänkatsomustiedolla. Tämä siirtäisi opetusta tunnustuksellisesta opetuksesta eri uskontojen ja kulttuurien tuntemukseen, mikä kehittää oppilaan ymmärrystä omasta kotipaikasta ja Suomesta osana globaalia monimuotoista ihmiskuntaa.

Jos uskontoa ei korvata elämänkatsomustiedolla, myös kaikkien alle 18-vuotiaiden oppilaiden on saatava itse valita, haluavatko he käydä uskonnon vai elämänkatsomustiedon tunneilla. Lukuisin pieniin opetusryhmiin hajautuva uskonnonopetus haukkaa etenkin suurissa kaupungeissa kohtuuttoman suuren osan tuntikehyksestä."

Olen antanut informoida itseäni siitä, että se, mitä vasemmistoliitto ajaa, on täsmälleen sitä, mitä "uudistunut" Vapaa-ajattelijain löiitto ajaa.

Seikkailuja tietotekniikan parissa

Asensin osittain uudistettuun tietokoneeseen Ubuntu 12.04:n beeta -version. Intelin sisäänrakennettu grafiikka toimi muutoin hyvin, paitsi ettei se pystynyt näyttämään kuvaa oikein full HD näytölle.

Ostin uudehkon näytönohjaimen, mutta en saanut sitä ollenkaan toimimaan uusitussa koneessa. Ajurit olin asentanut.

Kun siirsin vanhan tietokoneen samanmerkkisen näytönohjaimen uusittuun koneeseen, full HD- näyttö alkoi toimia täysin oikein.

Tässä ei olisi tapahtunut muuten mitään vahinkoa, mutta kun siirtelin vanhemman koneen ahtaassa kutelossa osia paikasta toiseen, yhden kiintolevun SATA - kaapelin kiinnitys kiintolevyyn hajosi samalla tavalla kuin USB -liittimetkin hajoavat.

Nyt ihmettelen, miten saisin kyseisen kiintolevyn toimimaan.

Että tällaista tämä tekniikan kehitys on. Antakaa piikkeihin perustuvat liittimet takaisin!

En enää aio asentaa mitään liian ahtaisiin koteloihin. Onneksi minulla on vanhoja isoja koteloita.

Post scriptum

Kaikki muut kiintolöevyt saatiin toimimaan uudistetussa koneessa paitsi vanha 360 Gb:n kiintolevy, joka todennäköisesti sisätää Windowsin.

Mitään viime vuosien töitä ei mennyt hukkaan.

Microsoft ja Porsche

Yllä selostettu puuhastelu tietokoneiden kanssa tähtäsi siihen, että minulla olisi kaksi toimivaa tietokonetta myös Iisalmessa.

Kun yksi tietokone jäi yllä esitetyissä puuhissa ilman kiintolevyä, ryhdyin siirtämään vanhassa Porschen kotelossa olevan Seagaten 250 Gt:n tietoja uudemmalle kiintolevylle koneeseen, joka ei ole aktiivikäytössä ja joka ei siitä syystä rikkoudukaan.

Tiedostojen siirto oli vaivalloista, koska virusohjelma luuli mm. kaikkia itse exe -tiedostoiksi kääntämiäni ohjelmia viruksiksi ja pysäytti tiedonsiirron.

Loppujen lopuksi en saanut Microsoftin formaatilla varustettua kiintolevyä täysin tyhjäksi enkä edes uudestaan alustettua Microsoftin formaattiin.

Sitten laitoin 250:n Gt:n kiintolevyn koneeseen, jossa ei ollut kiintolevyä, ja asensin kiintolevylle Ubuntu 12.04:n beetaversion. Asennus onnistui moitteetta, mutta joku Porsce oli laittanut kiintolevylle Ubuntun msdosiksi tunnistamia tiedostoja, ja kone ei käynnistynyt kuin kehotteseeen asti ja antoi ilmoituksen "grub rescue".

Pulassa auttoi IBM:n rikkoontumisistaan kuuluisa 40 Gt:n Deskstar -kiintolevy, jolle Ubuntu asentui moitteetomasti. Porsce jouduttiin laittamaan takaisin alumiinilaatikkoon, ja se jatkaa siellä työtä Ubuntu -formaatilla varustettuna varmuuskopiokiintolevynä.

Saunalahden ohjeistuksen mukaan sain myös nettitikun toimimaan, mutta sähköpostin kanssa tuli yllättävä ongelma, jonka ratkaisun olin jo unohtanut. Omaguru -palvelu sen sijaan muisti, että pitää kirjoittaa erkki.hartikainen@saunalahti.fi ja mieluummin POP. Oletusasennus oli erkki.hartikainen, ja sillä sähköposti ei toiminut, vaan piti lisätä @saunalahti.fi.

Nyt minulla on yksi toimiva kesäkone lisää, mutta ongelma ei lopu tähän. Kotitaloni on paikassa, jonka Internet -yhteydet toimivat huonosti. Kylällä ei ole edes yhtään niin isoa navettaa, että sinne olisi vedetty valokuitu. Kyllä valtioneuvoston jäsenten pitäisin viedä päänsä huoltoon, jotta valtakunnan Internet -yhteydet saataisiin toimimaan.

Kevätpäivän tasaus 20.03.2012

Tänään vietetään kevätpäiväntasausta. Päivä ja yö ovat lähes samanmittaiset koko maapallolla. Kevätpäiväntasauksen myötä aurinko siirtyy taivaanpallon eteläiseltä puoliskolta pohjoiselle, jossa alkaa puolen vuoden mittainen valoisa jakso.

Koska Yleisradiosta tulee uutislähetys, jossa ei valehdella?

Ei enää koskaan, sanoo Erkki Hartikainen 15.3.2012.

Yleisradiosta on tullut kristillisoikeistolaisuuden pää-äänenkannattaja Suomessa. Jos asia jäi tyhmemmille epäselväksi korjattakoon: Yleistadio kannattaa republikaanista oikeistoa ja on muuttanut joutsenmerkin norsuksi.

Vennamon sananpartta "kyllä kansa tietää" voitanee muotoilla uudelleen seuraavakski: "kyllä kansa on tyhmää".

Kaiken lisäksi uutiset ovat vihjailevia, Esimeksiksi tänään puhuttiin amerikkalaisista lääkärin määräämien särkylääkkeiden yliannostukssista, jotka minun mielestäni johtuvat amerikkalaisten heikkenevästä lukutaidosta. Yhdenkään lääkkeen nimeä ei mainittu.

Uutisen tekijät olivat myös autuaasti unohtanee sen, että tavallisiin tulehduskipulääkkeisiin, joita saa apteekin hyllyltä, kuolee vielä enemmän, ja kaiken lisäksi niiden haittana on se, ettei kipu niillä lähde.

Minun mieleeni ei tule lääkärin määräämistä kipulääkkeistä, joista voisi olla kysymys, muita kuin tramadoliini, joka on heikko opiaatti. Ortopedi määräsi minulle sitä vasta sitten, kun mikään muu ei tehonnut. Onnistuin elämään sen kanssa selkäleikkaukseen asti, ja sen jälkeen en lääkettä tarvinnut.

Joulukussa tuli kuitenkin iskias, johon söin yhden reseptin tramadoliinia, mutta toisesta reseptistä minulle jäi lääkettä jäljelle niin että selviän niillä seuraavasta iskiaisesta - koska se sitten tuleekin.

Tämä lääke ei tuhoa suolistoa, maksaa ja munuaisia, mutta se saattaa opiaattien tapaan heikentää hengitystä yms.

Moni kuolee tässä maassa eseimerkiksi syövän aiheuttamiin hirveisiin kipuihin, joita eivät apteekin hyllyltä myytävät tulehduskipulääkkeet ollenkaan estä.

Ammattiyhdistysliike on Yleisradion mukaan keksinyt uudestaan Hammurabin lain: silmä silmästä, hammas hampaasta. Kun yksi erotetaan on tasapuolista, että toinenkin erotetaan.

Ensiksi erotettu on tietysti sankari ja toiseksi erotettu roisto, eihän tästä muutoin Hammurabin lakia synny.

Ehdotankin kristitylle rouva valtiovarainimisterille, että erotetaan kerralla kaikki valtionhallinnon johtajat. Kiusaaminen lopahtaa käytännössä kokonaan, työntekijät saavat tehdä rauhassa ja oikein työnsä ja valtio säästää niin paljon, ettei muita säätöjä tarvita.

Mistä oikein oli kysymys?

1980 -luvun puolivälissä jätin Vapaa-ajattelijain liiton pääsihteerin tehtävät kesken kauden kymmenen vuoden jälkeen. Syynkin ilmoitin: Pekka Elo kavereinaan Ilkka Niiniluoto ja Timo Airaksinen on ottanut haltuunsa elämänkatsomustiedon, ja he tekevät siitä kelvontonta - niin kuin sitten tekivätkin.

Vasta nyt löysin kirjaston kierrätyshyllystä silloisen professorim ja nykyisen valtakunnankanslerin Ilkka Niiniluodon kirjan, jossa hän ryhtyi opettamaan meille tietojenkäsittelytieteen ammattilaisille tietojenkäsittelytieteen käsitteitä.

Kirjasta ei muista syistä kannattaisi puhua, mutta siitä ilmenevät selvästi ne mielipiteet, jotka tekivät Ilkka Niiniluodosta yhden pahimmista vihamiehistäni troikassa.

Pekka Elo esitteli minulle 1980 -luvun alkupuolella Ilkka Niiniluodon popperistista kirjaa (popperismi on saanut nimensä Sir Karl Popperista). Torjuin kirjan popperistisena, ja näin tulin sattumalta luoneeksi aineksia troikan syntyyn.

Pekka Elo luetti Ilkka Niiniluodolla kirjani "Tieteellinen maailmankatsomus" ja Ilkka Niiniluoto silloisena agnostikkona tuomitsi kirjan.

Myöhemmin Kari Saari pyysi minua kirjoittamaan Vapaa Ajattelijaan vastineen agnostisismille. Koska en halunnut esiintyä vapaa-ajattelijain lehdessä, kirjoitin sen nimimerkillä. Kuulin vasta tällä vuosituhennella, että Ilkka Niiniluoto on kyseisen kirjoituksen perusteella kääntynyt "filosofiseksi ateistiksi".

Sanoin Pekka Elolle olevani hänen kanssaan eri mieltä useimmista filosofian kysymyksistä ja erityisesti etiikasta ja moraalifilosofiasta. Tulin sattumalta luoneeksi aineksia troikan syntyyn.

Minun silloin edustamani toinen troikka sai WSOY:n lukion elämänkatsomustiedon oppikirjan kustantajaksi, mutta Pekka Elo pani professori Timo Airaksisen leimaamaan kirjan "kirjoittajien idiosynkrasioiksi".

Kun kirjan tuomisti peräti filosofian professori, WSOY peräytyi kirjahankkeesta. Myöhemmin teetti aika paljon töitä poistaa Internet  -aineistoista Kari Saaren sinne kirjoittama hölynpöly.

Sitten Pekka Elo palkkasi Ilkka Niiniluodon ja Timo Airaksisen tekemään lukion elämänkatsomustieon oppikirjoja valtion kustannuksella.

Timo Airaksisen etuja olivat keskustapuoluelaisuus, synteettisten a priori väitteiden kannatus, hyve-etiikka ja kantilaisuuden arvostus.

Ilkka Niiniluoto ei sentään kannattanut pragmatismia vaan valistusajattelua, mikä lienee ainoa asia, josta olen Ilkka Niiniluodon kanssa samaa mieltä.

Nyt Suomen filosofian loistavin tähti on sekä totuus- että siveyspragmatismin edustaja professori Sami Pihlström, joka on itse julistautunut vihollisekseni.

Mitä tulee suuriin kansanjoukkoihin, niitä johtavat professorit ja heitä myötäilevät poliitikot.

Oltakoon reaalisosialismin kaatumisesta mitä mieltä tahansa, tämä kaatuminen poisti uskonnollis-konservatiivisuudelta ainoan vastavoiman, ja ainakin minun mielestäni tämän planeetan ja sen elämän tulevaisuus on nyt synkkääkin synkempi.

Post scriptum

Kun laitoin Ilkka Niiniluodon yllä olevaa kirjaa kirjahyllyyni, huomasin, että siellä on noin kymmenen vuotta myöhemmin kirjoitettu Niiniluodon kirja, jota en ollut popperismin takia edes lukenut. Kirja oli joutunut kirjahyllyyni kirjaston kierrätyshyllystä.

Toisaalta voidaan sanoa, että on jonkinlaista pehmeyttä mennä kaikkiin kissanristiäisiin, mutta tällä tavalla Niiniluodolle oli kertynyt kirjaksi koottava määrä artikkeleita, joissa Niiniluoto esiintyy popperilaisena kaikkien erityisalojen asiantuntijana.

Onneksi hän ei sentään esiinny kantilaisena.

Olen antanut kertoa itselleni, että Niiniluodon väitöskirjakin oli artikkeliväitöskirja.

Saako Koraanin polttaa?

Kun olen syyskuusta lähtien harrastanut askartelua lukion filosofian oppikirjojen tekemisen kanssa, olen havainnut, että kautta aikojen melkein kaikki filosofia on kannattanut kapitalistista yhteiskuntajärjestelmää.

Kaikissa kapitalistisen yhteiskunnan muodoissa omistaja määrää, mitä hänen omaisuudelleen tehdään.

Jos omistat minkä tahansa kirjan, voit polttaa sen. Jos poltat naapurin kirjan, joudut todennäköisesti korvaamaan sen. Jos poltat tahallasi kokonaisen kirjaston, joudut Suomessa vankilaan.

Kun Julius Caesar vahingossa poltti Aleksandian kirjaston, häntä ei kuitenkaan pantu vankilaan, mutta hän rakennutti tilalle uuden kirjaston.

Jos Sauli Niinistö polttaa vahingossa jonkin kirjaston, hän ei todennäköisesti joudu korvaamaan sitä. Jos sinä poltat vahingossa jonkin kirjaston, joudut todennäköisesti loppuiäksesi velkakierteeseen.

Jos olet kyllästynyt omistamaasi Koraaniin, voit poltaa sen, mutta muista, ettet polta koko taloa.

Tietokoneet ovat kallistuneet

Tietokoneen kiintolevy, josta maksoin viime kesänä 50 euroa maksaa nyt toista sataa euroa. Johtuneeko dollarin arvon noususta, että muutkin tietokoneen osat ovat kallistuneet?

Minulla on ollut pitkään useita tietokoneita siitä syystä, että tarvitsin tietokoneita kotona valmistellakseni tietotekniikan opetusta, ja aina piti olla käytettävissä kone, joka toimii.

Viime syksynä eräs kone teki kuljetuksen jälkeen lakon. Siirsin sen kiintolevyn toiseen koneeseen, ja kiintolevy toimi siellä.

Kun huomasin, että jopa kaapissa olevat liian pieninä koneista poistetut kiintolevyt ovat nyt kalliita, päätin kunnostaa lakon tehneen tietokoneen. Lopulta kävi ilmi, että joko emolevy tai suoritin oli lakossa.

Kun jäljellä oli kunnollinen kotelo virtalähteineen, laitoin kaapista Linuxilla varustetun kiintolevyn koneeseen, ja ostin siihen emolevyn, suorittimen ja 8 Gb muistia. Nämä menevät nykyään uusiksi. 

Tarkat ohjeet olivat DVD:llä, mutta järkeä ei ollut käytetty liitäntöjen merkinnöissä, vaan etupaneelin liitännät oli käännetty pystyyn, ja laitoin ensin ne väärin päin. Suorittimen tuuletin meni aikaisempaa paremmin paikoilleen, mutta se ei alkanut tuulettaa. Meni jonkin aikaa, ennen kuin huomasin, että virtajohto oli kierretty tuulettimen ympärille niin, että se haittasi pyörimistä.

Alan yleissääntö on, että kun jokin vika korjataan, niin jokin toinen vika tulee tilalle.

Tämä saattaa olla viimeinen tietokone, jonka kokosin. Kokoaminen ei kannata nykyään ollenkaan, mutta uusien peltilaatikoiden lennättäminen kaukoidästä ei tunnu sekään oikein järkevältä.

En ole vielä keksinyt, miten uuteen emolevyyn saa kiinni levykeaseman, mutta onneksi minulla on jäljellä koneita, joissa levykeasema toimii.

Syy löytyi: kiintolevymonopoli

Tietokone -lehden sivustot

Western Digital on ostanut japanilaisen Hitachin kiintolevytuotannon. Tämä merkitsee kiintolevyjen käyttäjille sitä, että valinnanvara hupenee pitkälti vain kahteen vaihtoehtoon, Western Digitaliin tai Seagateen. Samalla WD nousee maailman suurimmaksi valmistajaksi ohi Seagaten.

Western Digitalin halu ostaa Hitachin kiintolevytuotanto HGST julkistettiin jo vuosi sitten, mutta vasta nyt kauppa saatiin virallisesti tehtyä, kun eri kilpailuviranomaiset olivat sen hyväksyneet.

Kaupassa Western Digital (WD) maksaa Hitachille yhteensä 3,9 miljardia dollaria käteistä ja 25 miljoonaa osakettaan arvoltaan 0,9 miljardia. Hitachin omistusosuudeksi tulee noin kymmenen prosenttia, ja yhtiö saa oikeuden nimittää kaksi edustajaansa WD:n hallitukseeen.

Hitachin entinen kiintolevy-yhtiö, nykynimeltään Viviti Technologies, jatkaa vanhalla brändillään ja omalla tuotevalikoimallaan, eikä sitä sulauteta WD:n osaksi.

”Kaupan viimeistely on yhtiömme 42-vuotisessa historiassa todella merkittävä tapahtuma. Omistamalla kaksi menestyksekästä yhtiötä ja alan parhaat kyvyt, odotamme saavuttavamme suuria asioita”, WD:n pääjohtaja John Coyne hehkuttaa.
Toshiba saa osia 3,5-tuumaisten tuotannosta

Yrityskauppa paisuttaa Western Digitalin markkinaosuuden ohi tähänastisen ykkösen Seagaten, joka puolestaan osti viime vuonna Samsungin kiintolevytehtaat. Kaksikko hallitsee nyt maailman kiintolevymarkkinoita ylivoimaisesti.

Kolmantena sinnittelee japanilainen Toshiba, jonka markkinaosuus on reilut kymmenen prosenttia. Toshiba myös laajentaa toimintaansa Western Digitalin ja kilpailuviranomaisten vaatimusten ansiosta: WD:n täytyy luovuttaa osia ostetun HGST:n 3,5-tuumaisten kiintolevyjen tuotannosta Toshiballe, joka on tähän asti valmistanut vain 2,5-tuumaisia levyjä. IDC:n mukaan kiintolevyjen kysyntä kasvaa vuosittain 8,6 prosenttia vuodesta 2111 vuoteen 2016. Näin ala vaikuttaisi kukoistavalta, koska tallennustilan tarve maailmassa kasvaa hurjaa vauhtia. Toisaalta historiallisesti kiintolevyt eivät näytä olleen erityisen menestyvä kasvubisnes, jos katsoo toimintansa lopettaneiden kiintolevyjen valmistajien pitkää luetteloa.

Intelin suorittimen full HD- ominaisuuksia en saanut toimimaan. Eivät ole saaneet muutkaan. Asia ei ole kiirellinen, koska kesällä käytän konetta vanhalla näytöllä, ja siinä koneessa, jolla nyt kirjoitan, full HD - näyttö toimii.

Java -kurssi Internetiin

Löytämieni monisteiden mukaan opetin Javaa vimeksi keväällä 2004. Ajattelin laittaa varsin loppuun hiotut aineistot Internetiin lähiviikkoina.

Näppäimistöltä luku on näköjään alkanut onnistua Javan omilla luokilla, valitettavasti niissä kuitenkin esiintyy sekaannus desimaalipilkun ja desimaalipisteen välillä.

Minun käyttämäni Java on OpenJava 7. Siinä en ole keksinyt, miten skandit saadaan toimimaan. Olen unohtanut sen, miten ne ennen saatiin toimimaan.

Helsingin yliopisto on näköjään alkanut opettaa uudehkoa Scala -nimistä ohjelmointikieltä. Se on Java -yhteensopiva, mutta siinä on piirteitä funktionaalisesta ja imperatiivisesta ohjelmoinnista, joten matemaatikkona olen tyytyväinen tällaisen ohjelmointikielen markkinoille tuloon.

An Albanian immigrant who hacked a restaurant manager’s head off with a cheese knife was allowed to move to Britain despite five years of violent and psychotic behaviour in Europe.

Jonathan Limani, a paranoid schizophrenic described as a ‘highly dangerous individual’, had been sectioned twice and was being investigated for assault when he was allowed to move to England.

The family of his victim, Chris Varian, yesterday said authorities had made a ‘catalogue of errors’ in letting Limani move from Sweden to become a waiter at the four-star The Oxfordshire in Thame.

Limani – who had been working at the hotel for only a fortnight – killed his boss because the ‘voice of God’ had told him to, a psychiatrist told the court.

Mr Varian, then 32, had gone for a break to the smoking area. Limani took a cheese knife, followed him out and stabbed him before sawing his head off. Alan Blake, prosecuting, said kitchen porter Guy Hathaway-Pearce saw ‘the defendant kneeling on the ground holding Mr Varian’s neck’. Mr Varian was unconscious and Limani looked ‘transfixed’.

The decapitation had taken a ‘certain degree of time and energy’, according to the post mortem.

Limani pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility, with the prosecution accepting he was suffering from an abnormality of mind at the time of the killing.

Limani had been sectioned twice and diagnosed with psychosis in Sweden and Switzerland. He was taking medication erratically. He served a year in prison in Switzerland for heroin trafficking in 2004. He was under investigation for assault in Sweden – where he claimed asylum – when he moved to Britain.

After his arrest here, he was detained in Broadmoor and diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and a personality disorder.

Sentencing him to life behind bars, with a minimum tariff of 19 years, Judge King said the killing of Mr Varian was an act of 'extreme and ultimate violence.'

Before he can go to jail, Limani will be sent to a secure hospital for further psychiatric treatment. Should his mental health improve he will go to jail to serve his sentence.

Limani, who had only been in the country for three weeks before butchering Mr Varian, was a known psychotic, having twice been detained for mental health problems in Sweden.

Less than a month before coming to the UK, the lunatic killer had allegedly tried to wrestle a handgun from a police officer as he was arrested over an assault.

Atheist billboards in hebrew and arabic sure to shock, draw doubters "out of the closet"


An atheist advocacy group is continuing its nationwide billboard campaign to "get people out of the closet" and provide a "welcoming home" for anyone who rejects belief in a god and religious creeds. The latest effort is directed at Jews and Muslims, and is part of the "You Know It's a Myth" theme.

AA BillboardarabicDave Silverman, President of American Atheists, said that the campaign will build awareness for the upcoming REAS0N RALLY to be held in Washington, DC on Thursday, March 24, 2012 and the group's national convention slated for that weekend. Both events are being promoted as a "coming out party" for atheists and other freethinkers. The billboards state: "You KNOW it's a Myth -- and You Have a Choice."

One sign in Hebrew and English will be erected in Brooklyn, NY. The other, in Arabic and English will be displayed in Patterson, NJ.

Mr. Silverman said, "There are many atheists and other religious skeptics in these groups. And we know that insular communities often try to squelch any questioning or criticism of religious orthodoxy. We want these atheists to know that they are not alone, and that they have a welcoming home in our movement."

"Our world is being divided by religious passions and fanaticism," added Silverman. "We are not trying to inflame or 'insult' anyone with these billboards. We are encouraging atheists to actively speak out in the debate over the deleterious role played by religious belief."

Blair Scott, Communications Director for American Atheists, said that the latest part of the "You Know It's a Myth" campaign follows the display of billboards about the failed doomsday prophecy of evangelist Harold Camping, and a controversial sign at the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel in New York that questioned the Christian nativity story.

"We're sending a clear message that it is OK to be an atheist and not blindly follow priests, rabbis, swamis, mullahs and others who substitute faith and mythology for reason and science."

"We are also exercising our right to freedom of speech," added Mr. Scott, "It is a vital part of American culture; and religious creeds and teachings should not be exempt from contrary views."

Egypt: Actor Adel Emam sentenced to three months jail

The world famous Egyptian movie and stage actor Adel Emam* has been sentenced in absentia to three months jail for allegedly offending Islam and its symbols. He has one month to appeal against the sentence. The case was brought by a lawyer linked to an Islamist group. It refers to Emam’s performance a 2007 film and a 1998 stage play about an Arab dictator.

With Islamists gaining power, the public climate is dramatically changing in Egypt. Weeks after the parliamentary elections, in which Islamist parties won a majority, numerous actors, directors, artists and intellectuals are accused of defaming Islam. Adel Emam is the most prominent victim.

The 71-year old actor, who played in more than hundred movies and ten plays, is worldwide best known as a comedian, often poking fun at authorities and politicians. He starred in many serious movies also, among them the high profile literary film The Yacoubian Building (2006). Since decades, his custom character archetype enjoys great popularity - a man, down on his luck, who raises against powerful outside pressure.

Adel Emam did not appear in court. His current whereabouts are unknown.

Sanal Edamaruku updated his status: "A statue of Jesus Christ releases water through his feet (yes from feet!!) in Vile Parle in Mumbai. A crowd emerged there following the local church announcement that it was a miracle.

In TV-9, today evening, I have explained the absurdity of miracle mongering in a one hour program. The statue made of plaster of paris, and cracks are seen at the top.It seems the church needs many tricky miracles to survive!!"

The Atheist Union in The Netherlands

The Atheist Union in The Netherlands is a very young group.

The idea came in early 2010. In midsummer of the same year the union was established and two months later the site was on the web. In October after a newspaper article regarding me, being a former clergy and now president of the atheist union, photo included, we became 35 new members. That was a good start. Now we have 125 members. But it is not growing anymore.
 
Our main problem is getting in the news in a positive way. You have to know that a lot of problems do not exist in our country anymore: we were the first country to ligalize mariage between people of same sex; ligalized abortion and ligalized euthanasia; ligalization in preparatian for getting euthanasia when your life is over although you are still healthy.

These are all things where atheist in many countries only dream about. But for us it is lot more difficult to find concrete things where we can stand up against.
 
The only things that are still a problem for us are remainders of the periode that we’ve had state church. Officialy we have seperation between church and state.
 
Eg. shops must be closed on sundays because the christians want to go to church in peace.

We want that every body can choose for them selves whether they want to go to shops or not and shop owner must decide for themselves whether they want their shop to be opened or not.
 
Our Queen is head of the governement and so she has to sign all the bills the governement made. She signes with: “I, Beatrix, queen by the grace of God”. That is wrong in a country with separartion between state and church.
 
We have a split schoolsystem: public schools and so called ‘special’ schools, meaning christian schools. And nowadays also muslim and hindu schools. But all of these schools are funded by the governement so by us the tax payers. That is wrong to. Atheists have to pay for ‘special’ schools.
 
These special schools are allowed, because of freedom of religion, to refuse to engage homosexual teachers in their school. So they are allowed to discriminate.

Allthough in our constitution it says that no one may be discriminated, amongst others, because of his religion, nor of his sexual nature.
 
Christians are allowed to discount money at the taxes when the give money to the church. In fact all the taxpayers pay through this system for the churches.
 
Minor issues but as symbols important: on the side of our 2 eurocoin is put the prayer: God will be with you, in  the same way as the Americans always say: God bless you. And as they have on their money: in God we trust.

This is the symbol that there is no real separation between state and church.

The other is the question of the scarf for muslim women. Now there is legislation in preparation to ban the burka. The whole face covering scarf. The discussion is: is this because of religion or because of culture? Now they use the reason it is not save when people hide there face, there can be a robber underneath it.
 
So, our problem with all this is that we have to fight more or less directcly against the churches (there are also christian politic parties in gorvernment). And that is something that is very difficult in our country, because we are very tolerant. No one cares. And we get no press, or very negative press (we did not have that so far).
 
Also atheists do not care. ‘Wy should I become a member of the atheist union? I do not believe, and that’s it. let them be who want to believe, it is not of my concern.’
 
Well this is the situation.

Our questions: what can we do, without getting into dogfights. The way through politics is a very long one. And all the politic parties has christian or muslim voters. They don’t want to ‘hurt’ them.

What can we do to get in the picture in a possitive way, so that people want to join us and buisnesses will support us and fund us.

Or is there another way to get money to organize actions where we get the attention from the public, for a converence with a famous speaker, or have in divers cities monthly an atheists café (coffee-shop).
 
We would be very happy  if you could give us suggestions, about the things I wrote about our situation, or answers to our questions.

The Government was last  night accused of ‘sidelining’ Christianity for preparing a legal fight against believers having the right to wear the cross at work.

In a move branded ‘extraordinary’ by Christian groups, the Government was reported to be ready to argue against two British women at the European Court of Human Rights.

It is set to defend the right of employers to ban the cross as it  is not a ‘requirement’ of the Christian faith to wear it. Bosses could then sack workers who insisted on wearing the symbol.

The move would potentially scupper the case being brought by two Christian women, Nadia Eweida and Shirley Chaplin, who claim they were discriminated against when their employers stopped them wearing crosses.

The Ministry of Justice was last night unavailable for comment, but Christian groups expressed their astonishment at the news.

Andrea Williams, the director of the Christian Legal Centre, said: ‘It is extraordinary that a Conservative Government  should argue that the wearing of the cross is not a generally recognised practice of the faith.’

Mrs Eweida, a former British Airways worker, and Mrs Chaplin, a nurse, are taking their case to the European court in Strasbourg after facing disciplinary action at work. Mrs Eweida’s case dates from 2006 when she was suspended for refusing to take off the cross, which her employers claimed breached BA’s uniform code.

The 61-year-old, from Twickenham, claimed that BA allowed members of other faiths to wear religious symbols. She lost her challenge against an earlier tribunal decision at the Court of Appeal and in May 2010 was refused permission to go to the Supreme Court.

Mrs Chaplin, 56, from Exeter, complained she was barred from working on wards by Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Trust after refusing to hide her cross, ending 31 years of nursing.

The hospital argued it was a health and safety issue.According to reports last night, the Government will argue that the two women’s application  to the Strasbourg court is ‘manifestly ill-founded’.

Its submission stated: ‘In neither case is there any suggestion that the wearing of a visible cross or crucifix was a generally recognised form of practising the Christian faith, still less one that is regarded (including by the applicants themselves) as a requirement of the faith.’

Human Remains from the Pleistocene-Holocene Transition of Southwest China Suggest a Complex Evolutionary History for East Asians

Background

Later Pleistocene human evolution in East Asia remains poorly understood owing to a scarcity of well described, reliably classified and accurately dated fossils. Southwest China has been identified from genetic research as a hotspot of human diversity, containing ancient mtDNA and Y-DNA lineages, and has yielded a number of human remains thought to derive from Pleistocene deposits.

We have prepared, reconstructed, described and dated a new partial skull from a consolidated sediment block collected in 1979 from the site of Longlin Cave (Guangxi Province). We also undertook new excavations at Maludong (Yunnan Province) to clarify the stratigraphy and dating of a large sample of mostly undescribed human remains from the site.

Methodology/Principal Findings

We undertook a detailed comparison of cranial, including a virtual endocast for the Maludong calotte, mandibular and dental remains from these two localities. Both samples probably derive from the same population, exhibiting an unusual mixture of modern human traits, characters probably plesiomorphic for later Homo, and some unusual features.

We dated charcoal with AMS radiocarbon dating and speleothem with the Uranium-series technique and the results show both samples to be from the Pleistocene-Holocene transition: ~14.3-11.5 ka.
Conclusions/Significance

Our analysis suggests two plausible explanations for the morphology sampled at Longlin Cave and Maludong. First, it may represent a late-surviving archaic population, perhaps paralleling the situation seen in North Africa as indicated by remains from Dar-es-Soltane and Temara, and maybe also in southern China at Zhirendong.

Alternatively, East Asia may have been colonised during multiple waves during the Pleistocene, with the Longlin-Maludong morphology possibly reflecting deep population substructure in Africa prior to modern humans dispersing into Eurasia.

The Problem Of Street Children in Mali

In Mali, there are strong links between Islam and the problem of street children in the country. Mali is predominantly muslim. Around 90 percent of the population profess Islam. But Islam in this West African country is said to be ‘moderate and tolerant’. Unlike their counterparts in Nigeria, muslims in Mali live in relative peace and harmony with themselves and with adherents of other faiths and beliefs. Constitutionally, Mali is a secular state and freedom of religion is guaranteed for all citizens. But this does not mean that all is well in this country in terms of what is perpetrated or condoned in the name of this religion as I noticed during my recent visit. Below the thin layer of Mali’s moderate and tolerant Islam are some deep, enthrenched and festering social problems.

As is the case in the muslim majority states in Northern Nigeria, Mali has a problem  of street children. And this problem is linked with the way lslam is practiced in the country. The problem persists due to the way

Islam is percieved and privileged in the society.
We need to shine the light on this dangerous link in order to combat this social scourge which has a lot of development and security implications for Mali, for West Africa and the world at large.

 In March, I met Issuf(14), Issuman(10) and Ibrahima(10) on the streets of Bamako. They were begging for alms. The trio looked dirty and unkempt. They might not have heard their bath for days. Issuf, Issuman and Ibrahima were among thousands of children whom I was told roam the streets of Mali everyday.

The children are called Manya in local Bambara language. In Northern Nigeria they are called almajiri.
The Manya, I was told, are children from poor families who are sent to learn Koran and Arabic by their parents at local Madrassa schools in Bamako. These schools are headed by Koranic teachers who exploit the children-force them to go and beg on the streets- in order to sustain themselves and the schools. Actually, these children spent around 3 hours –between 7.00am and 10.00am learning Koran/Arabic, and the rest of the day-and night- roaming the streets and scavenging for survival.

At the end of the day, the children hand over what they got to the islamic teacher and the next day they are back on the streets. The Manya  are subjected to this cycle of abuse and exploitation for years. They face so many hazards- infact many of them die due to lack of medical care, hunger, or accidents. Some of the children I saw on the streets of Bamako had sores on their bodies. It was evident that nobody was catering for them.

Some of the street children who survive end up as thieves or criminals. Since Koranic and Arabic education do not equip these children with useful skills, some of them may end up being recruited by terrorist and jihadist networks. For me the Manya are social time bombs that would explode on the face of Mali and the world at large. Most of the people I spoke to sounded hopeless, and thought that the Manya phenomenon had come to stay in Mali. And because the issue is connected with Islam, many people were slow and careful in condemning it for fear of being portrayed as a critic or enemy of Islam.

Local authorities appear to be doing nothing to address the problem. They have literally turned a blind eye on it. These children are a common sight on the streets of Bamako. So no one would say that they are not aware of the presence of ‘les enfants des rues’. The government I was told is very knowledgeable of the issue. I think that they do not care. Or rather, it is not a priority to the politicians-after all, the children do not vote. But their parents do.

The government of Mali need to rise up to this challenge and take drastic measures to tackle the problem head on. The government should arrest and prosecute Koranic teachers who send children  to beg on the streets. Their Madrassa schools should be closed down. The government should condemn in no uncertain terms the exploitation of children in the name of koranic teaching or Arabic learning. Local authorities should penalize parents who allow or condone their children begging on the streets. For instance, Issuf, Issuman and Ibrahima told me that their parents were aware that they were begging on the streets .

I mean, such cases of parental irresponsibility should not go unpunished. Concerned citizens, local and international organizations should help shine the light on the problem. Unicef should lobby and engage the government of Mali and of other countries like Nigeria, Niger, Senegal with similar problems in finding a lasting solution to this menace. The government of Mali needs to review madrassa school system and consider closing down such schools since they appear not to be adding any value to the life and development of children. It should ensure that all children both from poor and rich families receive formal education that equips them with useful skills and competencies.

Children are the future of any society. Whatever jeopardizes the future of children endangers the future of the society. The authorities in Mali must strive and eradicate the problem of the street children and the madrassa school system that fuels, aids and abets it.

Slovenians Turn Down Same-Sex Marriage

Yesterday, Slovenia held a post-legislative referendum on the new Family Code legalizing same-sex marriage that was adopted in the Slovenian parliament in June 2011.

In a popular vote, 55% of voters rejected the new Family Code and 45% supported the law. Turnout was 30% on a sunny Sunday.

Ales Primic, head of the Civil Initiative that proposed the referendum, told European Dignity Watch:

"The people of Slovenia has shown the government and the whole of Europe that claims for privileges for a minority  cannot be accommodated at the expense of the most fundamental right of every child: the right to have a father and a mother. Those who wanted to sacrifice this right for the sake of personal privileges have been told unequivocally by the Slovenian people: motherhood and fatherhood are both unique and valued, we want marriage between a man and a woman to be protected, we want our next generation to grow up in the most favorable environment."

The new Family Code had 309 articles and addresses many issues, but despite intense negotiations over the past two and a half years continued to include serious threats to the family and rights of children.
 
Primc explained:

"We have always been ready for a compromise solution, but the political parties and the LGBT groups insisted on equalising the position of homosexual and conjugal marriages, including the right to decide upon child-bearing."
 
In what turned out to be the most controversial, the new Family Code introduced the unclear path towards complete equalisation of the homosexual and conjugal marriage and the child-adoption for homosexual couples.
 
The referendum was held upon an explicit request of the people of Slovenia, who came together in a civil society movement outside the political parties in a "Civil Initiative for the Family and the Rights of the Child."
 
The Civil Initiative was in an unenviable position with all major media against it and with the President of Slovenia Danilo Turk declaring himself for the new Family Code, just as did most political parties in the national parliament. The current Slovenian government decided not to participate in the referendum campaign.
 
This was a first referendum of this kind in an EU member state and is likely to become an important point of reference for any further legislation in this area in the region of Central Europe.
 
Background information:
 
  • Civil Initiative for the Family and the Rights of the Child was formed as a response to the unacceptable proposal for a new Family Code in 2009. It is by far the largest Slovenian civil society group (it has more than 65,000 members). It promotes the rights of children and encourages civil society to protect marriage as the union between one man and one woman.
  • In terms of its supporters it is a new phenomenon because Slovenia has not experienced such a strong civil society involvement after the fall of the Communist regime.
  • On 3 February 2012 the Civil Initiative delivered well over 40,000 verified signatures, needed to hold a referendum on the new Family Code to the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia.
  • Following the rejection of the new Family Code at this referendum, this legislation is now scrapped and Slovenia will go back to the drawing board, with a recently established new Slovenian government, and a clear message from the Slovenian people

Igwe: Religious law, democracy and human rights

RELIGIOUS laws are legalised religious doctrines. They are “revelations” turned into rules to govern society. Religious laws are sacred dogma institutionalised. They are sins criminalised. They are religious hatred, intolerance, discrimination and fanaticism turned into state policies. In most parts of Africa, the negative impact of religious laws on democracies and human rights systems is clear and compelling – from the wars, conflicts and anarchy in Somalia, Northern Uganda, and in the Sudan, to the threats posed by Islamism to the Arab Spring in North Africa and the peaceful coexistence of people in Nigeria; from the witch hunts in Malawi, Nigeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Tanzania, Kenya, Guinea Conakry, Mozambique and the Central African Republic, to the wave of homophobia sweeping across different countries with overt and covert support from the OIC, the Vatican and other religious agencies that foster religious laws and its discontents across the globe. How we address this ‘sensitive’ issue of religious law - particularly here at the Human Rights Council - will go a long way in determining the future of democracy and human rights in the world. I will discuss this theme under three sub headings – witch hunts, homophobia and religious bloodletting.

Witch hunts

Witch hunting is going on in contemporary Africa due to the rule of codified and uncodified religious laws in the region. The tragic death in the UK of 15 year-old Congolese boy Kristy Bamu has shocked many across the world. Bamu was tortured to death by family members who believed he was a ‘witch’ and that he should be suffered not to live as stated in the Christian holy book. What Kristy Bamu went through in the UK is what many children, women and elderly persons across Africa are suffering at this moment. The only difference is that while those who tortured and killed Bamu have been brought to justice, in most cases those who perpetrate such atrocities in Africa go scot free, they are never made to answer for their crimes. I believe those who murdered Bamu must have done so out of obedience and faithfulness to the religious teaching and law as enshrined in Exodus 22:18-which says ‘Suffer not a witch to live’ and in other religious traditions and as contained in the religious indoctrination that marks the education and upbringing of most Africans.

Also inspired by religious laws are those persecuting alleged witches in Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Benin, Burkina Faso, the Congo, Central African Republic, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi and Angola. Even where there are enabling state laws to address the problem, in many cases the religious laws in the minds of the people overwhelm, and take precedence over state laws. Or the existing law will be twisted and misinterpreted to convict the alleged witch and acquit the accuser.

Hence it should not surprise anyone that theocratic agencies like the Vatican, the Church of England, the OIC and their member states have not come out openly and categorically to condemn accusations of witchcraft and spirit possession sweeping across Africa and Asia and among African and Asian overseas communities. One wonders why the so called Africa group has maintained a silence – I would say criminal silence – over the witchcraft related torture and killings going on in several African states?

Homophobia

And now compare the deafening silence and indifference of African states to combating witchcraft related abuses with their vehement and strident opposition to recognizing the human rights of gay people. The reasons often cited to justify and sanctify homophobic legislations in the region are as follows: That homosexuality is unbiblical, un-Koranic and ungodly! In other words, the African states have these sacred texts, not their constitutions, as their grundnorm.

Recently, many African states and most of the OIC member states walked out of the session convened by the Council to discuss violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. With that walk out, they have made their position clear:  they do not want these human rights violations to be discussed or addressed, nor will they be party to addressing them. They should not be held responsible and accountable. In other words, they are saying that the human rights abuses on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity should continue, because that is in accordance with the ‘divine’ law in these countries.

Religious Bloodletting

Lastly, religious laws are rarely adopted in a civil and democratic manner. They are not proposed in a manner whereby we can discuss or debate them, accept or reject them, revise or amend them. Instead they are imposed, and foisted on the people by force and sometimes by violence and bloodshed. In my country, the tree of sharia law has been watered with the blood of too many Nigerians as well as non-Nigerians. And the same can be said of Algeria, Egypt, Sudan and Uganda where Joseph Kony and his militants are killing, enslaving and raping their way to imposing Christian law on Uganda.

In Nigeria, the bloody campaign for the rule of sharia is still going on at the moment. Shortly after Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999, Islamic theocrats in Muslim majority states imposed sharia law. Many Nigerians lost their lives in riots, protests and clashes over the implementation of sharia. Today, the Islamist group Boko Haram is the latest face of this bloody campaign. In Nigeria, Islamic militants agitating for a government under sharia law kill at the slightest provocation or offence: if it is not the publication of cartoons of Mohammed in Denmark, it is the invasion of Afghanistan by American forces or the staging of the beauty pageant or the burning of the Koran, or the coming of an American preacher to the city of Kano.

There is something lacking in the conscience and morals of those who for whatever reason value a book more than a human being, more than human life. There is something out of sync with humanity in anyone who thinks that a person who insults, denounces, renounces or blasphemes against any religion should be killed. There is something incompatible with human civilization in the mindset that subordinates human beings, or sacrifices human dignity, human rights and human lives, on the altar of religious dogma or offence. And we should strive to ensure that no legal code that sanctions or condones these dark and destructive tendencies is associated with our democracy and human rights in this 21st century.

My friends, let us face it. There is something fundamentally undemocratic about religious laws: that is the ‘alleged’ source or sources as the case may be. Religious laws originate from questionable sources which humans are not allowed to question or inquire into, or they do so at great cost to themselves. Unfortunately, the religions have refused to tell the world the truth about the origins of these laws which they insist must guide and govern human lives, and direct and determine human decisions – including the ones we make here at the Human Rights Council.

In a democracy, people have the right to know and to know the truth not only about those who govern them but also about the laws that are used to govern the society. But as long as religions continue to lie, and hold humanity in the dark about the source or sources of their dogmas and doctrines; as long as religious agencies continue to hamper the ability of the people to reclaim, revise or discard these archaic, outdated and dark age norms, religious laws will remain social and political liabilities to democracies and human rights systems across the world. Religious laws will continue to undermine human rights mechanisms, including the Human Rights Council.

Religious laws are supposedly divine, not man-made, crafted by a supreme being, not mere mortals. Religious laws are not really meant to protect the interest of the people but those of a god – of particular gods, or Allah – at the expense of human beings. Under religious laws, the will of the people is superseded by the supposed will of a god believed to be greater than the human being. There is no place for the voice of the people. Instead there is only the voice of god or Allah which is appropriated, patented and employed by few males to tyrannize over the lives of others.

Under religious laws, there is no place for equal or universal human rights, for the right to freedom of expression, freedom of religion or belief. There is no guarantee of the basic right to life. Think about Abraham who almost murdered the son Isaac as a demonstration of faith. Religious law has no regard for human beings. Religious laws are incompatible with the values of democracy and human rights. And those who peddle them will always see themselves swimming against the currents of human progress, hope, civilization and enlightenment.

Christian doctor 'sacked for emailing a PRAYER to hospital colleagues to raise their spirits'

A Christian doctor went to an employment tribunal yesterday claiming he was sacked because he emailed a prayer to his colleagues.

David Drew, 64, qualified 40 years ago and rose to become clinical director at the hospital where he worked.

But he said he was dismissed after failing to accept an order to ‘refrain from using religious references in his professional communications, verbal or written’.

Dr Drew accepts that he emailed a prayer by St Ignatius Loyola, the 16th century founder of the Jesuits, to colleagues at Walsall Manor Hospital three years ago to try to motivate the department.

He said he prefaced it with the words: ‘I find this a personal inspiration in my frail imperfect efforts to serve my patients, their families and our department.’

He said the email was welcomed by his colleagues. But he was later accused of sending an ‘unwelcome’ text message to a colleague on Christmas Day wishing him a ‘peaceful Christmas’.

The colleague, Rob Hodgkiss, replied with the word ‘likewise’, but a report by the hospital said: ‘While DD (David Drew) may regard such messages as benign, RH (Rob Hodgkiss) perceived them as aggressive and unwelcome intrusions into his private time.’

Dr Drew told the Birmingham tribunal the hospital trust never clarified why it told him not to use religious language at work, and that it was unable to provide further examples of his use of such phrases.
 
He said: ‘The allegation that I have forced my religion on to other people, that I am some kind of religious maniac, was made worse by the fact that they told me there was no need to understand what this is all about.’

The tribunal heard his problems began after he raised concerns over a consultant who let a child with suspicious injuries go home, despite ‘serial warnings from other staff’.

The child was killed a week later by his stepfather, who later admitted manslaughter. In 2008 Dr Drew was stripped of his position as clinical director as a result of the dispute about the competence of the child’s consultant.

He was made aware of two incidents in 2009 when children were allegedly sexually assaulted by adult patients allowed to use ‘washing and toilet facilities’ on the children’s ward.

He said he wrote to the divisional director over the matter but ‘never had a satisfactory answer’.

He was suspended for six weeks in 2009 after complaining about a ‘very rude nurse’.

After his text to Dr Hodgkiss that December, Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust set up an independent review which told him to stop making religious references.

Dr Drew, who lives in Sutton Coldfield with his wife Janet, 61, and attends a Baptist church, was finally dismissed three days before Christmas 2010 after a disciplinary hearing. The hospital cited a breakdown in trust.

The hearing continues.

Even in the midst of the eurozone crisis, senior officials in Brussels are occasionally able to maintain a sense of humour. Case in point: A press release sent out this afternoon by the office of Herman Van Rompuy announcing yet another emergency eurozone summit – on April 1.

At first glance, the press release looks genuine. The summit needs to be held because of some "inadvertent wording" in the new fiscal discipline treaty, which covers all countries "whose currency is the euro". As a result, the heads of state of Montenegro, Kosovo, San Marino, Monaco, Andorra and Vatican City need to be brought to Brussels to weigh in on the pact, since they all use the euro as well.

"The presence of His Holiness the Pope affords an opportunity to pray for divine intervention to save the euro," says the press release. "This is now seen as the most credible strategy."

Arhinmäki tukee Joensuun gospelfestareita

Kulttuuri- ja urheiluministeri Paavo Arhinmäki on myöntänyt 5 150 000 euroa tukea valtakunnallisille kulttuuritapahtumille. Tukea sai kaikkiaan 165 tapahtumaa.

Suurimmat avustuksensaajat ovat Savonlinnan oopperajuhlat, Tampereen Teatterikesä sekä Helsingin Juhlaviikot. Ministeriö teki avustuspäätökset kuultuaan Taiteen keskustoimikuntaa ja valtion taidetoimikuntia.

Kirkollisista tapahtumista tukea saivat muun muassa Lahden urkuviikko (43 000) Espoossa järjestettävä Urkuyö ja aaria (16 000), Joensuun gospel-musiikkifestivaali (11 000) sekä Lohtajan kirkkomusiikkijuhlat (8000).

Avustuksilla halutaan turvata valtakunnallisesti ja taiteellisesti merkittävien kulttuuritapahtumien järjestäminen eri puolilla Suomea.

Opetus- ja kulttuuriministeriössä on valmisteilla kulttuuritapahtumien avustusjärjestelmän uudistaminen.

- Tulevaisuudessa haluan kiinnittää erityistä huomiota esimerkiksi siihen, miten tapahtumat vaikuttavat eri väestöryhmiin, edistävätkö ne tasa-arvoa, yhdenvertaisuutta ja kestävää kulttuuria, Arhinmäki sanoo.

Valtakunnallisten kulttuuritapahtumien tukia arvioitaessa tullaan kiinnittämään huomiota paitsi tapahtuman taiteelliseen merkitykseen, myös sen saavutettavuuteen ja siihen, voiko avustuksella vaikuttaa tapahtuman hintatasoon ja mahdollisuuteen järjestää myös ilmaistapahtumia.

New Yorkin kouluissa ennätyspitkä lista kielletyistä sanoista

NEW YORK. New Yorkin kaupungin kouluvirasto on julkaissut ennätyspitkän luettelon sanoista, joita ei pitäisi viljellä koulujen koetehtävissä, koska joku voi loukkaantua. "Syntymäpäivä", "dinosaurus", "tanssi", "politiikka" ja muun muassa "köyhyys" ovat arkaluontoisia ilmauksia, jotka voivat hermostuttaa oppilaita, New Yorkin alueen media kertoi tällä viikolla.

Kiellettyjen aiheiden luettelo tiedotettiin äskettäin yksityisille yrityksille, jotka kilpailevat tasotestien myymisestä New Yorkin kouluille. Kokeita järjestetään englannissa, matematiikassa, luonnontieteissä ja yhteiskunnallisissa aineissa.

New Yorkin kaupungin koulupiiri on Yhdysvaltain laajin, siinä opiskelee yli 1,1 miljoonaa koululaista.

Luettelo on ennätysmäisen pitkä. Listassa mainitaan 50 aihetta, New York Post kertoi.

Dinosauruksista puhuminen voisi ikävällä tavalla virittää keskustelua lajien kehityksestä, New York Post kuvasi perusteluja. Lajien kehitys on asia, jonka Yhdysvaltain oikeistokristityt kiistävät. Heidän mukaansa Jumala loi maailman muutamia tuhansia vuosia siten.

Tanssiminen taas on joissain lahkoissa kiellettyä. Baletin voi kyllä mainita koekysymyksissä, kouluviranomaiset joustavat.

Koska Jehovan todistajien uskontokunta ei vietä syntymäpäiviä, on sekin aihe tabu. Ja vainajien muistopäivästä juontuva Halloween on joidenkin mielestä silkka pakanakarnevaali. Sitä ei siis saisi mielellään tehdä koekysymyksiä.

Puhumattakaan sanasta "orjuus", joka vielä 200 vuotta sitten kuvasi useimpien mustien amerikkalaisten olosuhteita.

On selvää, että New Yorkia 2001 järkyttänyt "terrorismi" on kiellettyjen sanojen listassa. Samoin "politiikka", joka näin vaalivuonna aiheuttaa ikäviä tunteita aikuisissakin.

New Yorkin kouluvirasto kieltää myös kysymykset "avioerosta" ja "taudeista".

Köyhyys ja sen vastakohtana "vaurauteen viittaavat" ilmaukset ovat myös kiellettyjä, CBS New York ja verkkolehti Huffington Post kertovat.

Tosielämässä sekä köyhyys että sen vastakohtana harvojen hurja rikastuminen ovat Yhdysvalloissa kärjistänyt tuloeroja menneiden yli kymmenen vuoden aikana, hallituksen selvitykset osoittavat.

Koelause "Petersonien perhe lähtee viideksi päiväksi lomalle Mersullaan", voisi siis olla loukkaava, kouluaktivisti pähkäilee.

"Loukkaantuvatko lapsemme koska heillä ei ole Mersua? Sanovatko he, että kyllä nyt on paha mieli, kuinka te voitte kysyä minulta Mersusta. Minulla ei Mercedestä!" Näin irvaili Sy Fiegal CBS:n uutisille.

Columbian yliopiston opettajalinjan professori Deanna Kuhn ihmettelee määräyksiä. Juuri poliittisista kiistanaiheista pitäisi kysyä oppilailta, koska se kehittäisi lasten ajattelukykyä, hän sanoo.

Kouluvirasto selitti Fox-uutiskanavalle, että kyse ei ole sensuurista. Lista on vain suositus, joka heijastelee viranomaisten herkkyyttä monikulttuurisella koulualueella.

Useat Yhdysvaltain osavaltiot ovat julkaisseet samantapaisia kieltolistoja. Niissäkin neuvotaan, että ylelliseen elämään viittaavia sanoja ei saisi käyttää koekysymyksissä.

MTV3: Krp epäilee uskontoyhteisöä miljoonakiskonnasta

Keskusrikospoliisi on kaikessa hiljaisuudessa tutkinut Suomen rikoshistorian suurinta kiskontaepäilyä, kertoo MTV3.

Poliisin mukaan itämaisen uskontoyhteisön aktiivi menetti yli miljoona euroa kiinteistö- ja asuntokaupoissa, kun rikolliset käyttivät hyväksi uhrin hyväuskoisuutta.

"Tässä esitutkinnan perusteella on todettu, että yhdeltä asianomistajalta olisi saatu vietyä omaisuutta yli miljoonan euron edestä. Poikkeuksellista tässä on se, että kun häneen on saatu kontakti ja yhteys ja häneen on saatu luottamus, niin häntä on aika pitkän ajan kestäessä vedätetty",

kertoo rikosylikomisario Risto Lohi keskusrikospoliisista MTV3.n haastattelussa.

Venäjän armeijaan 240 sotilaspappia

Pietarin kiisteltyä homolakia esitetään koko Venäjälle

Venäjällä on tehty aloite laista, joka kieltäisi "homoseksuaalisen propagandan" levittämisen alaikäisille koko maassa. Aiemmin samanlainen laki on hyväksytty Pietarissa.

Aloitteen takana on eteläsiperialaisen Novosibirskin aluehallitus.

"Homoseksuaalinen propaganda on laajalle levinnyttä nyky-Venäjällä. On välttämätöntä suojella tulevia sukupolvia propagandan vaikutuksilta", valtuutetut kirjoittivat.

Aloitteessa ei määritellä, mitä "homoseksuaalinen propaganda" on. Esityksen mukaan siitä voitaisiin kuitenkin tuomita enimmillään jopa 500 000 ruplan (noin 13 000 euron) sakko.

1,4 miljoonan asukkaan Novosibirsk on Venäjän kolmanneksi suurin kaupunki ja Novosibirskin alueen ja Siperian liittovaltiopiirin hallinnollinen keskus.

Pietarin homovastainen  laki on ollut ihmisoikeusjärjestöjen hampaissa. Viranomaisten pelätään käyttävän lakia homoseksuaalien sortamiseen.

Arvostelijoiden mukaan lakiteksti jätettiin epämääräiseksi, jotta sitä voidaan käyttää mahdollisimman laajasti seksuaalivähemmistöjen sortamiseen.

"Lakiteksti on niin epämääräinen, että se voi johtaa sateenkaarilipun kieltämiseen tai homomyönteisellä logolla varustetun t-paidan käyttökieltoon", Human Rights Watch on varoittanut.

Viranomaiset ovat perustelleet lakia lasten suojelemisella.

Pietarissa voimassa olevassa laissa kielletään myös lesbouden, biseksuaalisuuden ja transsukupuolisuuden propagointi.

Homoseksuaalisuus oli Venäjällä rikos vuoteen 1993 saakka.

Kysely: Usko kuolemanjälkeiseen elämään vähentynyt

Kirkon tutkimuskeskuksen teettämän kyselyn mukaan yli kolmasosa suomalaisista ajattelee, että kuoleman jälkeen kaikki elämä loppuu.

Yli kaksi viidestä suomalaismiehestä ajattelee näin ja naisista joka neljäs.

Uskovaisilla on sittenkin joskus vaikeuksia päästä Suomen kansalaisiksi

Siitä huolimatta, että uskovainen sisä-, maahanmuutto- ja kirkkoministeri Päivi Räsänen on yrittänyt määrätä antamaan kristinuskoon kuuluville uskovaisille positiivista erityiskohtelua maahanmuuttoon päästettäessä, uskovaisilla on sittenkin joskus vaikeuksia päästä Suomen kansalaisiksi.

Korkein Hallinto-oikeus on 19.3.2012 antamassaan ennakkopäätöksessä, vuosikirjaratkaisu KHO:2012:20, estänyt kristittyä lähetyssaarnaajaa pääsemästä Suomen kansalaiseksi, koska KHO:n mielestä ei ollut erityistä painavaa syytä poiketa normaaleista kansalaisuusvaatimuksista.

Aiemmin Helsingin Hallinto-oikeus oli päättänyt, että lähetyssaarnaaja päästettäisiin Suomen kansalaiseksi. Alemman hallinto-oikeuden uskovaisia suosiva kanta kuitenkin romuttui KHO:n tarkastelussa.

Tämä ei silti merkitse sitä, etteivät uskovaiset kristityt kuitenkin onnistuisi ujuttamaan uskovaisiaan Suomeen tulevaisuudessakin. Samalla kun uskovaiset monissa maissa vainoavat uskonnottomia, kristittyjen omia uskovaisia on jopa laittomina maanalaisina maahanmuuttajina Suomessa.

Uskovaisia maahanmuuttajia ei tulisi päästää Suomeen, koska heillä tulee olemaan vaikeuksia sopeutua maalliseen yhteiskuntaamme

Kirkkohallitus on kiinnittänyt julkilausumallaan huomiota siihen  että uskonnon merkitystä maahanmuuttajien kotouttamisessa ei pidä aliarvioida. Tämän johdosta kirkkohallitus esittää kaikenmoisia toimenpide-ehdotuksia ja toiveita, joista moniin ateistien ei kannata yhtyä.

Suomen Ateistiyhdistyksessä on herännyt ajatus antaa julkilausuma, joka varoittaisi uskovaisten tulevista ongelmista Suomeen kotoutettaessa, ja mahdollisesti esittäisi että uskonnollisia ihmisiä ei pitäisi päästää maahanmuuttajiksi Suomeen, koska he eivät yleensä sopeudu hyvin maalliseen suomalaiseen yhteiskuntaan.

On toki ikävää että uskovaisilla on ongelmia kotoutua reaalitodellisuuteen ja maalliseen yhteiskuntaan, mutta vielä pahemmin väärin on aiheuttaa kärsimyksiä tervejärkisille maallisille ihmisille pakottamalla heidät sietämään ja veroina maksamaan uskovaisuudesta johtuvia ongelmia.

Tähän on lisäksi hyvä muistuttaa, että suomalaisten etnisestä  veljesmaasta Virosta tulevien maahanmuuttajien enemmistö on uskonnottomia, eikä heillä yleensä ole ainakaan uskovaisuuden mukanaan tuomisesta johtuvia ongelmia.

14 punkkaria kivitettiin kuoliaaksi Bagdadissa

BAGDAD. Ainakin 14 teini-ikäistä, länsityyliin pukeutunutta punkrokkaria on tapettu kivittämällä Irakin pääkaupungissa Bagdadissa, viranomaiset ja sairaalalähteet kertovat.

Nuoret kannattivat amerikkalaisperäistä emo-suuntausta, olivat kammanneet hiuksensa tyylin mukaisesti ja pukeutuivat tiukkoihin farkkuihin. Heidän tappajikseen epäillään Bagdadin shiiaenemmistöisten kaupunginosien äärivanhoillisia jengejä.

Lauantain tiedon mukaan kaupunginosissa kierrätettiin nimilistoja nuorista, jotka tapetaan, elleivät he muuta pukeutumistyyliään.

Irakin sisäministeriö kiinnitti viime kuussa huomiota emo-alakulttuuriin ja määritteli sen saatananpalvonnaksi. Ministeriön mukaan emo-muoti oli leviämässä kouluissa etenkin tyttöjen keskuudessa.

Jo ainakin 14 nuoren miehen ruumiit on tuota itäbagdadilaisiin sairaaloihin. Yhdeksän oli tapettu Sadr Cityn kaupunginosassa.

Reutersin toimittaja näki tappolistan, jossa lueteltiin shiialaiselta Bayaan alueelta vielä 24 nuoren nimet.

"Varoitamme teitä kovin sanoin, kaikki säädyttömät miehet ja naiset, ellette jätä tätä saastaista työtä neljän päivän aikana, Jumalan rangaistus on yllänne Mujahideenin kädestä", kiertokirjeessä sanotaan.

Sadr Cityn lisälistassa on 20 nimeä. "Me olemme vihan prikaati. Varoitamme teitä, ellette palaa terveyteen ja oikealle tielle, teidät tapetaan", listan varoitus kuului.

Sisäministeriö kuvasi "satanisteiksi" epäilemäänsä kohderyhmää viime kuussa: "Heillä on tiukat vaatteet, joissa on pääkallonkuvia, he käyttävät pääkalloin koristeltuja koulutarvikkeita, heillä on renkaita nenässä ja kielessä ja he ovat muutenkin omituisen näköisiä."

Pietari. Pietarin kuvernööri on vahvistanut kiistanalaisen homovastaisen lain. Laki kieltää "homoseksuaalisen propagandan" levittämisen alle 18-vuotiaille. Kielto koskee Pietarin aluetta.

Kuvernööri Georgi Poltavtshenko allekirjoitti lain keskiviikkona, ja se tulee voimaan kymmenen päivän kuluttua virallisen julkistamisen jälkeen.

Ihmisoikeusjärjestöt olivat vedonneet kuvernööriin, jotta tämä olisi estänyt lain voimaantulon. Niiden mukaan laki yhdistää homoseksuaalisuuden pedofiliaan. Viranomaisten pelätään käyttävän lakia homoseksuaalien sortamiseen.

"Lakiteksti on niin epämääräinen, että se voi johtaa sateenkaarilipun kieltämiseen tai homomyönteisellä logolla varustetun t-paidan käyttökieltoon",

varoitti Human Rights Watch aiemmin tässä kuussa.

Homoseksuaalisuus oli Venäjällä rikos vuoteen 1993 asti.

Jakarta. Indonesiassa on noussut kohu parlamentin aikeista kieltää naisedustajilta lyhyet hameet.

Hankkeen kannattajien mielestä naisten parlamentissa käyttämät minihameet ja muu "provokatiivinen pukeutuminen" johtavat raiskauksiin.

Pirkkalan seurakunnan nuorisopappi Arto Köykkä kirjoittaa blogissaan v-sanan musertavasta ylivoimasta. Hän kaipaa takaisin lapsuutensa työmiesten kirosanoja kuten ”perkele”ja ”helvetti”.

Narsisteista aatteellisissa järjestöissä

Liike-elämän oppien ajaminen järjestötoimintaan on narsistiselle luonteelle tyypillistä ja tärkeää. Liike-elämän oppien vallitessa, narsistinen johtaja saa erityisen paljon mahdollisuuksia toteuttaa narsistista itseään.

Jos siis järjestöösi ollaan tuomassa liike-elämän johtamisoppeja, voit suoraan olettaa että niitä ajava on narsisti.

Narsistinen johtaja osoittaa itsensä myös sillä että hän haluaa jees-ihmisiä ympärilleen, aatteellisen järjestön hallitukseksi. Haluttuja Jees-miehiä on tapana nimittää kaunistellulla uuskielellä "yhteistyökykyisiksi".

Tilanne Vapaa-ajattelijain liitossa

Vapaa Ajattelija 4/2011 esittää kansikuvallaan millaiselta näyttää liiton tilanne.

Uutta johtajaa esittävän kansikuvan valinta on osoitus, että heillä ei ole mitenkään hyvää mediaosaamista: kuvaksi on valittu niin ruma versio että koko homma näyttää ihan niin rumalta kuin se onkin.

Jos heillä olisi ollut edes kohtuullista mediaosaamista, kuvaksi olisi valittu kohdettaan paljon miellyttävämpänä esittävä kuva.

Narsistien tukimiehiä Vapaa-ajattelijain liitossa

Jo hallituskaudella 2008-11 nähtiin että Kari Pasanen, Aimo Törmänen, Robert Brotherus, Jori Mäntysalo ja Marko Koivuniemi ovat luonteeltaan sellaisia, että he ryhtyvät narsistin hovimiehiksi.

Heille on tyypillistä, että he käyvät immuuneiksi reaalitodellisuudelle. He pyrkivät luontaisesti erityissuhteeseen ylimmän johtajansa kanssa. Heillä on juuri sellaiset taipumukset joilla koko "työpaikka" sairastutetaan.

He muistuttavat läheisesti "veljiään" eräässä toisessa järjestössä.

Nörttikin voi päästä naimisiin

Tunnettu vajaa-ajattelija Jori Mäntysalo lohduttaa itseään kirjoituksellaan 6.3.2012: Ei tarvitse olla könsikäs, norttikin voi päästä naimisiin. Mäntysaloa lainaten: "Jos ...ei ole kesä- eikä talvikönsikäs.... vaan... pääsin minäkin naimisiin."

Häpeä itsestään on iskenyt Petri Karismaan: esiintyy väärillä titteleillä

Petri Karisman päätoimittamassa lehdessä Vapaa Ajattelija 1/2012 sivulla 22 Petri Karisma esittäytyy filosofian maisteriksi ja ammattikorkeakoulun lehtoriksi.

Luotettavista lähteistä saatujen tietojen mukaan Petri Karisma on kuitenkin opettajana pirkanmaalaisessa ammattikoulussa eikä suinkaan missään ammattikorkeakoulussa. Nähtävästi Petri Karisma ei kestä sitä että kunnianhimoisten bisnesurayritelmiensä jälkeen hän on pudonnut amikseen.

Toimituksemme tietoon ei ole tullut, missä opinahjossa Petri Karisma olisi suorittanut filosofian maisterin tutkinnon. Luultavasti ei missään, vaan kyse on Karisman esiintymisestä valemaisterina.

Nykyään Petri Karisma häpeilee myöntää, että hän suoritti ikääntyneenä yli kolmikymppisenä diplomi-insinöörin tutkinnon vitkallisesti sujuneiden opintojen jälkeen päästen nimellisesti pois häneen jo tarttuneesta ikiteekkariudesta.

Petri Karisma kopioi muiden työtä

Maaliskuussa 2012 ilmestyneessä päätoimittamansa Vapaa Ajattelija -lehden 1/2012 pääkirjoituksessa sivulla 3 liiton uusi puheenjohtaja Petri Karisma on innostunut samasta teemasta kuin hänen vastaehdokkaansa Kim Sjöström kirjoitti Kouvolan Sanomissa maaliskuussa 2011.

Molempien mielestä uskonto pitää julistaa yksityisasiaksi.

Onneksi Petri Karismalla on noin hyviä suunnannäyttäjiä. Tällaisilla pikku viiveillä Karisma ryhtyy toisinaan ajamaan ihan oikeitakin asioita. Nyt kesti vain vuoden että Petri Karismakin tajusi asian. No, vanha juttuhan tämä teema on vapaa-ajattelijoilla. Kumpikaan ei sitä ole keksinyt itse ensimmäisenä.

Silloin vuotta ennen Petri Karisman nyt saamaa oivallusta, Kim Sjöström kirjoitti 18.3.2011 Kouvolan Sanomissa muun muassa:

"Uskonnon harjoittaminen jäisi jokaisen yksityisasiaksi kouluun ja päiväkotiin ja muihinkin julkisiin tilanteisiin nähden. Alleviivaan käsitettä yksityisasia."

"Suomalaisista valtaosa haluaa pitää uskontonsa yksityisasianaan, eikä mielellään yleensä ryhdy sitä turuilla ja toreilla julistelemaan. Vain murto-osa suomalaisista on niin ylettömän uskonnollisia että haluavat tunkea oman uskonnonharjoituksensa muidenkin ihmisten kuunneltavaksi ja nähtäväksi."
