Muslimit tappavat

Erkki Hartikainen 26.9.2016

Lakia rikkovat äidit voitaisiin tuomita vankilaan kahdesta viiteen vuoteen.

Lisätty

Puolassa parlamentti on edennyt suunnitelmassa tiukentaa maan aborttilakia.

Vajarit ajavat sitkeästi kaikille pakollista Ruotsin mallin mukaista uskonnonopetusta

Erkki Hartikainen 22.9.2016

Suomessa kristinuskoa on melkein kaikki.

Olen lukenut Ruotsin uskonnon oppikirjat. Koska minulla on todistus ruotsin kielen hyvästä suullisesta ja kirjallisesta taidosta, lienen myös ymmärtänyt, mitä oppikirjoissa opetetaan.

Ateistit vastustavat jyrkästi Ruotsin mallin mukaista uskonnon opetusta.

Ruotsin mallin mukainen uskonnon opetus on vakava ihmisoikeusrikos.

Norjan surkea tilanne on melkoisessa määrin Norjan humanistijärjestön syytä. He ajoivat sellaista opetusta maahan.

Mitä hänelle lopulta tapahtui, on edelleen arvoitus

Horkkaloitsuja, loihdittua raivotautisuutta

Vuosina 1670–1710 Kuopion käräjäkunnassa joutui 14 ihmistä syytteeseen noituudesta, taikuudesta tai taikauskosta. Riitta Utriattaren tarinasta tuli kuitenkin näiden joukossa poikkeus, koska se johti kuolemantuomioon.

Oikeudenkäynnistä tuli osa sukuriitaa, jossa sekä kantaja että vastaaja yrittivät vyöryttää noituuden taakkaa toistensa harteille. Utriatar kertoi maksaneensa sovittajaisia ainoastaan pelosta kiivasluonteista lankoaan kohtaan.

Hannu Salaman Juhannustanssit ilmestyi kauppoihin lokakuussa 1964. Alku oli lupaava: kritiikit kiittivät.

Kotimaa-lehti julkaisi kirjoituksen otsikolla Roskaa kiiltokansissa, arkkipiispa Martti Simojoki piti moraalisen närkästyksen sävyttämän puheen, tuli eduskuntakysely ja vain neljä kuukautta kirjan ilmestymisen jälkeen syyte jumalanpilkasta.

1960-luvun Suomessa Juhannustanssien realismi oli liikaa. Keskikesän juhlassa juotiin viinaa, käytettiin karkeaa kieltä ja harrastettiin irtosuhteita. Suurin ongelma oli kirjan henkilön, muurari Hiltusen pilkkasaarna.

Juhanustansseja
pidettiin kokonaisuudessaan rienaavana.

Salama pyysi audienssia Simojoelta.

Tuomio – kolme kuukautta ehdollista vankeusrangaistusta – langetettiin 20. lokakuuta 1966. Kustantaja Kari Reenpää sai 2.000 markan sakot. Rikoksesta saatu taloudellinen hyöty tuomittiin menetetyksi valtiolle. Se tarkoitti 46.000 markkaa.

Muurari Hiltusen saarna sensuroitiin Juhannustanssien uusista painoksista. Erityisen rienaavina pidettiin sivuja 139–142. Takaisin sensuroitu teksti pääsi vasta vuonna 1990.

Myöhemmin juttu vietiin hovioikeuteen. Tuomio pysyi, mutta sakkorangaistus aleni. Vuonna 1968 presidentti Urho Kekkonen armahti Salaman.

Juhannustanssit sai aikaan ilmiön, jota voi kutsua vihapuheeksi. Nykyään vihapuheita levittää huonoimmin menestyvä kansanosa, mutta silloin vihapuheet paremmista piireistä.

Miksi ihmisen mukaisia huonekaluja ei saa ostaa kohtuullisen hintaan?

Erkki Hartikainen 19.9.2016

Erkki Hartikainen 17.9.2019

Toisaalla englanninkielisessä osiossa kerrotaan muslimien julmasta eläinten teurastuksesta.

Halal-liha on teurastettu islamin mukaan oikeaoppisesti leikkaamalla eläimen kurkku nopeasti terävällä veitsellä, lausumalla samanaikaisesti ”Allahu akbar” (Jumala on suurin) ja valuttamalla eläimen veri ulos.

Onneksi siat säästyvät, koska muslimit eivät syö sianlihaa.

Äärikatolisen Filippiinien presidentti määrännyt vastustajien murhia ja ampunut ministeriön työntekijän konepistoolilla

Lisätty 16.9.2016

Uskonnolla on merkittävämpi sija kansan elämässä kuin esim. Suomessa.

Kristinuskon jumala on loogisesti mahdoton.

Nettotulos nousi 47,2 miljoonaan euroon. Vuotta aiemmin vastaava tulos oli 13,3 miljoonaa euroa.

Nettotulos oli jäsentä kohden 11,81 euroa. Vuotta aiemmin luku oli 3,29 euroa. Summan kasvua selittää osin kirkon jäsenmäärän vähentyminen. Viime vuonna kirkkoon kuului vajaat neljä miljoonaa jäsentä, kymmenessä vuodessa seurakuntien jäsenmäärä on huvennut noin 300 000 ihmisellä.

Kirkon talouden kohentuminen näkyy siinä, että negatiivista tulosta tekevien seurakuntien määrä on vähentynyt. Tappiota teki 96 seurakuntataloutta. Määrä hupeni vuodessa 17:llä.

Suomessa on kaikkiaan 290 seurakuntataloutta.

Taloutta vahvistivat verotulojen kasvu, toimintakulujen pysyminen kurissa ja alhaiset investoinnit.

Kirkon tuotot kertyvät valtaosin verotuloista, jotka kasvoivat vajaat kaksi prosenttia eli noin 18 miljoonaa euroa 1,03 miljardiin euroon. Kirkollisverotuotto kasvoi 9 miljoonaa euroa ja osuus yhteisöveron tuotosta lähes 9 miljoonaa euroa. Toimintatuottoja kertyi 186 miljoonaa euroa.

”Verotuotot yllättivät positiivisesti”,

kertoo kirkkohallituksen taloussuunnittelupäällikkö Pasi Perander.

Viime vuonna 18 seurakuntaa korotti kirkollisveroaan.

”Määrä on lähellä vuosittaista keskiarvoa. Veroprosenttien korotukset ovat keinovalikoiman häntäpäässä. Tällä hetkellä alin kirkollisvero on yksi prosenttiyksikkö ja korkein kaksi prosenttiyksikköä”,

Pasi Perander toteaa.

Kirkon omavaraisuusaste on huikeat 91 prosenttia.

Omaa pääomaa kirkolla on 2,5 miljardia euroa. Jos seurakuntien toiminta ajettaisiin alas, ja niiden nettovarallisuus jaettaisiin seurakunnan jäsenille, kukin saisi 637 euroa.

Seurakuntien talouden ennakointi on helpottunut kuluvan vuoden alusta. Vuodesta 2016 alkaen seurakunnat eivät enää ole saaneet osuutta yhteisöveron tuotosta. Tilalle on tullut 114 miljoonan euron suuruinen valtionrahoitus seurakuntien lakisääteisten tehtävien rahoittamiseksi.

Rahoituksen taloudellinen vaikutus on 120 miljoonaa euroa, koska seurakuntien verotuskustannukset alenivat 6 miljoonalla eurolla. Aiempina vuosia kirkon yhteisöverosta saamat osuudet heilahtelivat voimakkaasti.

Seurakunnan entinen työntekijä käräjille lapsen seksuaalisista hyväksikäytöistä

Lisätty 9.9.2016

Tampereen hiippakuntaan kuuluvan seurakunnan entiselle työntekijälle luetaan Pirkanmaan käräjäoikeudessa keskiviikkona syytteet lapsiin kohdistuvista seksuaalirikoksista.

Miestä syytetään kahdesta törkeästä lapsen seksuaalisesta hyväksikäytöstä ja kahdesta lapsen seksuaalisesta hyväksikäytöstä vuosina 2012–2014. Teot tulivat tietoon loppuvuodesta 2014. Tapauksen käsittelyyn on varattu oikeudessa yksi päivä.

Pirkanmaan käräjäoikeuden tuomari Aulikki Stenbäck on luvannut antaa oikeuden ratkaisusta julkisen selosteen.

Kirkon jäsenissä on paljon ateisteja

Tavallisesti junamatkustajia on päivittäin noin 213 000.

Uutiskuvissa on näytetty, kuinka muun muassa viikonloppuvapailta palaavia sotilaita on tungeksinut junaliikennettä korvaaviin busseihin. Teillä henkilöautot ovat juuttuneet ruuhkiin.

Netanjahu syyttää liikenneministeriä

Israelin mediassa liikennekaaoksesta on syytetty pääministeri Netanjahua, jonka sanotaan taipuneen uskontopuolueiden painostukseen pitääkseen hallituksensa koossa.

Netanjahun hallituskoalitiossa on kolmen ultraortodoksipuolueen edustus. Kaikkiaan hallituksella on 66 paikan enemmistö 120-paikkaisessa parlamentissa. Uskontopuolueilla on näistä 66 paikasta 13.

Pääministeri puolestaan on syyttänyt liikennekaaoksesta oman Likud-puolueensa liikenneministeriä Yisrael Katzia, joka tunnetaan Netanjahun kilpailijana.

Israelissa on spekuloitu, olisiko Katz nyt mahdollisesti saamassa lähtöpassit hallituksesta. Israelin radion teettämän kyselyn mukaan 80 prosenttia israelilaisista vastustaa liikenneministerin erottamista.

Äiti Teresa julistettiin pyhimykseksi

Lisätty 5.9.2016

Paavi Franciscus on julistanut Äiti Teresan pyhimykseksi Vatikaanissa järjestetyssä seremoniassa.

Kymmenet tuhannet pyhiinvaeltajat seurasivat Pietarinaukiolla järjestettyä seremoniaa, jota johti paavi.

Äiti Teresaa on arvostelu.

Mikä on turhaa miettimistä

Erkki Hartikainen 2.9.2017

Ihmiset ajattelevat tulevansa kuuluisiksi, jos he ratkaisevat jonkin ns. kuuluisista ongelmista. Erityisesti ihmisiä kiinnostavat erilaiset menneisyydessä sepitetyt ongelmat.

Kuuluisien ongelmien miettiminen on turhaa.

Ateisti on henkilö, jonka mielestä ateismi on tosi.

Agnostikon eli jumalaongelmaisen määritelmä

Agnostikko eli jumalaongelmainen on henkilö, joka ei mielestään tiedä, onko ateismi tosi vai onko teismi tosi.

Uskonnon määritelmä

Uskonto on järjestäytynyttä teismiä.

Save Polish Women

Added September 30, 2016

in solidarity with Poland and following the example of several European cities we, the Polish women living in Finland, are organizing the protest next Monday.

On October 3rd - #blackmonday - people in Poland will leave their workplaces for one day and protest against the new law, which has already passed the first (of 3) steps in Polish legalization path. The law inducts the complete ban on abortion, even in most extreme cases i.e. rape, severely disabled fetus and serious danger to women's health and life  (the 3 cases which are currently the only exception of abortion ban in Poland). The project criminalizes every abortion (5 years in jail) and forces women to report every miscarriage to the police (as well, possible 5 years’ jail sentence).

Creationist’s anti-atheist movie wins ‘Best Science Film’ award

Added September 30, 2016

Earlier this year a 260-pound former professional boxer, ex-cop and fundamentalist Christian sat down to watch Ray (Bananaman) Comfort’s latest movie, The Atheist Delusion: Why Millions Deny the Obvious.

It left Matt Barber, above – author of Hating Jesus: The American Left’s War on Christianity – “balling (sic) like a baby”.

After writing here that “those who deny the existence of their Creator are delusional”, Barber, “a columnist, a cultural analyst and an attorney concentrating in constitutional law”, said:

I mean it when I say The Atheist Delusion is the most persuasive and captivating answer to atheist questions I’ve ever seen on film. Without giving too much away, let me just say that non-believers and believers alike will be moved emotionally, spiritually and intellectually.

I have no doubt that many who claim atheism at the beginning of the film, will be left well on their way to admitting His existence and infinite glory toward film’s end.

Well, tears came to my eyes too – tears of mirth – when I learned today that Comfort’s film  had won the “Best Science Film” at the International Christian Film Festival.

According to the festival’s atrocious website, the movie, along with other award-winning entries, will be screened on Sunday October 2 at The Woodbridge Community Church in Irvine, California.

Bob Seidensticker, one of a number of reviewers who went through the ordeal of watching this steaming heap of manure (tagline: “Atheism destroyed with one scientific question” ) wrote here:

I don’t remember a single correct scientific statement from Ray in the entire movie. The entire thing collapses into a pretentious pile of elementary and emotional arguments, which, unfortunately, may be effective on people who haven’t thought much about these issues.

And he wound up with a quote from Mark Twain’s Life on the Mississippi:

As for the contents of his skull,  they could have changed place with the contents of a pie  and nobody would have been the worse off for it but the pie.

Texas school paints over its Ten Commandments mural

Added September 28, 2016

A high school in Lubbock, Texas, agreed to paint over the mural after the Freedom From Religion Foundation issued a warning saying that it it was in breach of the constitution.

Superintendent of O’Donnell ISD, Dr Cathy Amonett, released this statement:

After consultation with legal counsel, community members and students, I have decided as the Superintendent of O’Donnell ISD that the Ten Commandment mural will no longer be on display beginning Sept. 16, 2016.

Although the District’s students and community members strongly support the preservation of the mural as it is, I have decided that its continued display in the commons area of the school is not in the District’s best legal interests.

The move, according to this report, angered students who had been lobotomised by the Bible. A number covered the walls with notes filled with scripture.

Dr. Amonett added:

I am so very proud of the students at O’Donnell ISD for taking a stand for what they believe in and for demonstrating extremely mature conduct in the expression of those beliefs. They have shown themselves to the world to be strong, intelligent and passionate students who deserve to be respected. The current state of American constitutional jurisprudence, however, does not permit the District to continue its display of the mural.

Initially, the mural was covered with black paper. Dr Amonett says she covered up the paintings to avoid a lawsuit, until a better solution could be found. When some students tore down the paper, it was covered with a US flag.

O’Donnell High School junior Katye Gruben, pictured above, was one of a number of students who wanted the mural left alone. She said on Facebook:

It’s one of the big things that O’Donnell is known for, is keeping their faith strong no matter what.

Jordanian writer, on trial for insulting God, is shot dead

Added September 26, 2016

Nahid Hattar, above, was hit earlier today by three bullets outside court in the capital Amman where he was standing trial for allegedly sharing a satirical cartoon on his Facebook page.

According to the BBC, Hattar’s killer was arrested and police are investigating the murder.

The prominent writer and political activist was detained in August for 15 days on charges of insulting God.

The cartoon he shared depicts a bearded man lying in bed with two women and smoking, asking God to bring him a drink.

Hattar was attacked on social media for being anti-Islam.

He said he had not meant to cause offence and wanted to expose radical Islamists’ view of heaven.

But the authorities insisted he had broken the law by sharing the cartoon.

murderer-630x419-630x419

Meanwhile, the Independent reports that Tanveer Ahmed, above, who murdered Glasgow shopkeeper  Asad Shah for “disrespecting Islam” has released messages from prison calling on supporters to behead other “insulters”.

Now, he is encouraging others to do the same in extremist audio messages that appear to have been recorded and released after he was jailed for at least 27 years.

In Ahmed’s most recent speech, uploaded to YouTube earlier this month, he celebrates sending Shah :

To hell with the help of Allah, the prophet, angels and saints. I have the honour of sending him to the hell forever.

Ahmed goes on to call Ahmadi Muslims “frauds” for their beliefs, which hold the sect’s founder as a prophet following Mohammed, and accused them of:

Contaminating the faithful. Whoever and wherever is listening my voice must make a resolve to protect the finality of prophethood. We will save the Lord’s followers from going down to the hell – will protect their faith.

The message then calls on listeners to repeat a chant vowing to “offer their lives and souls”, ending:

There’s only one punishment for insulters: cut off their heads, cut off their heads, cut off their heads.

It was one of five messages, uploaded to the same YouTube account in May, June, August and most recently on 7 September. They are believed to have been recorded on a mobile phone, possibly during a call made by Ahmed from Barlinnie Prison.

Margaret Ferrier, the Scottish National Party MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West, is demanding an investigation into how the “disturbing” messages were released. In a letter to Colin McConnell, chief executive of the Scottish Prison Service, she said officials must ensure that convicts are not able to broadcast “extremist rhetoric”.

It is worrying that the persecution the Ahmadi Muslim community face in Pakistan appears to now be manifesting itself in the UK. The brutal murder of Asad Shah is the only reminder needed that this issue needs to be treated with the utmost seriousness.

If we are sincere about tackling extremism, then we must ensure that hate speech like this is not given a platform. Freedom of speech gives nobody the right to incite hatred towards any faith group.

A spokesman for the Scottish Prison Service said he could not comment on individual cases.

We work closely with Police Scotland to detect and prevent crime. We make overt recordings of phone calls made in prison.

Police Scotland have also launched an investigation into Ahmed’s audio messages, which could constitute hate speech or incitement. A spokesperson said:

We have been made aware of the communications and are currently assessing the matter.

The videos have generated fresh alarm in the UK’s Ahmadi Muslim community, following a Facebook page praising the murder of Mr Shah and leaflets calling for Ahmadis to convert or be killed distributed in London.

Farooq Aftab, from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community group, told The Independent:

Under no circumstances can hate speech ever be justified. We hope that the authorities clamp down all forms of extremism, hatred and hate speech.

Polish lawmakers push on with near-total ban on abortion

Added September 25, 2016

Ruling PiS party committed to law banning most terminations and making maximum jail term for practitioners five years

Rightwing lawmakers are pushing ahead with a near-total ban on abortion in devoutly Catholic Poland, while rejecting a rival bid to liberalise an existing law which is already among the most restrictive in Europe.

The governing conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party, which controls parliament, has sent to committee a bill that would allow terminations only if the mother’s life was at risk, and increase the maximum jail term for practitioners from two years to five.

The citizen’s initiative tabled in parliament by the Stop Abortion coalition would also make mothers liable to prison terms, though judges could waive punishment.

Poland’s influential Catholic church gave the initiative its seal of approval earlier this year, though its bishops have since opposed jailing women.

The head of Poland’s KAI Catholic information agency, Marcin Przeciszewski, said he expected the PiS would axe the provision on jailing women during legislative work.

The proposal, which the Council of Europe called a “serious backsliding on women’s rights”, inspired several large pro-choice marches and a rival drive to liberalise the law that lawmakers struck down on Friday in its first reading.

Tabled by the Save Women pro-choice coalition, it would have allowed abortion until the 12th week of pregnancy.

Save Women activist Barbara Nowacka vowed on Friday to try again.

“Parliament doesn’t want to talk about women’s rights, dignity, a decent life, sex education or birth control, but that doesn’t mean that we’ll give up,” she said.

Although the PiS generally favours banning abortion, its leaders are well aware that most Poles support the existing legislation.

Passed in 1993, the current law bans all terminations unless there was rape or incest, the pregnancy poses a health risk to the mother, or the foetus is severely deformed.own on abor

The country of 38 million people sees less than 2,000 legal abortions a year, but women’s groups estimate that another 100,000-150,000 procedures are performed illegally or abroad.

Lawmakers also sent to committee a PiS-proposed bill intended to limit in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), the treatment that involves fertilising an egg outside a woman’s body to produce an embryo that can then be implanted in her womb.

The measure would notably make it illegal to freeze embryos, which its proponents say are human beings from the moment of fertilisation.

It would also only allow women to fertilise one egg at a time, thus considerably reducing the chances of a successful pregnancy.

Atheist Ireland Tells UN Human Rights Council About Nation’s Church/State Separation Problem

Added September 24, 2016
by

Atheist Ireland just became the first explicitly non-theistic advocacy group to speak in front of the full UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, and leaders of the group used the opportunity to denounce their nation’s blasphemy laws, ban on abortion, and religious discrimination in public schools.

Jane Donnelly and Michael Nugent represented the Irish organization (which is a member of Atheist Alliance International, a group with “accredited observer status” at UN meetings).

Here’s a transcript of the speech delivered by Nugent:

The chairs of both major UN Human Rights Committees have strongly criticised Ireland’s lack of separation of church and state.

Ireland now claims that it is constitutionally obliged (not merely permitted, but obliged) to allow religious discrimination, in order to buttress religion, including in publicly funded schools.

Ireland needs a Religious Equality Referendum to be able to meet its UN human rights obligations.

Law Against Blasphemy

Ireland should urgently hold a referendum to remove the offence of blasphemy.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation seeks global laws against defamation of religion. As part of this, Pakistan at the UN has cited specific language from the Irish blasphemy law.

Heiner Bielefeldt, United Nations Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion, has advised us:

“The major damage done by this law is international. Those countries that have an intimidating anti-blasphemy practice like to quote European countries to unmask Western hypocrisy.”

Religious Discrimination in Education

Nine different sets of United Nations and Council of Europe committees have concluded that Irish schools breach the human rights of atheist and minority faith children, families and teachers.

Irish schools breach very fundamental human rights like freedom of religion and belief, freedom from discrimination, equality before the law, and no effective remedy.

Ireland should oblige publicly funded schools to deliver educational services, including employment, state curriculum and enrolment, in an objective, critical and pluralistic manner, and with no religious discrimination of any kind.

Law Against Abortion

We support the many recommendations to strengthen women’s right to abortion in Ireland.

We support the Campaign to repeal the Eighth Amendment of the Irish Constitution, to enable the Irish Parliament to legislate for the right to abortion.

Whether pressure from the UN will get the Irish government to take up these issues is up for debate, but silence will accomplish nothing. Most people, I suspect, would never think of Ireland as a place where human rights are in jeopardy, but the atheists there have done a remarkable job of bringing these concerns to the public’s attention.

Oh Noah! Another ark park is planned, this time for Canada

Added September 23, 2016

A Chinese convert to Christianity is planning to build a biblical theme park complete with a replica of Noah’s mythical ark – in a cemetery.

Wenqing Sun, according to this report, has received permission from the cemetery south of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, to embark on the cockamamie venture.

Said Marc L’Hoir, who manages Sunset Cemetery in Moose Jaw:

This will be a one-of-a-kind tourist attraction and I think there will be people coming from all over the world to visit.

He said the idea comes from China, where businessman Sun constructed a similar park in the city of Shenyang in northern China. L’Hoir said:

He actually converted from Buddhism to Christianity and this is just part of his spreading the word of Christianity throughout the world.

L’Hoir says Sun is a friend of the owner of Sunset Cemetery, which owns land north of the current cemetery site — about halfway between the city of Moose Jaw and the Canadian Forces base south of the city.

The theme park would be built on two hectares (five acres) adjacent to the cemetery. L’Hoir expects it to be a popular tourist destination.

You know how many people go to Vatican City? How many people go to Jerusalem to the Wailing Wall? So once the word gets out and we start marketing it, I think it’ll be a real tourist attraction for Moose Jaw.

He added:

Plus it’s going to enhance the cemetery. Hopefully people want to be buried there.

According to the plans, the ark will be 136 metres long, 23 metres wide and 13 metres high, with three levels including a children’s play area on the first floor.

The second floor will depict animals that were on the ark and the third is going to be a 3D presentation about the life of Jesus.

L’Hoir says the park will be built in phases, at an estimated cost of $1.2 million. He says it will take about four years to complete, but could be open before it is entirely finished.

But hey, if you’re an ark fan, why travel to Moose Jaw or to Kentucky to visit Ken Ham’s failing venture when you can get a replica of your very own for a measly $2,050.

ark

The ark, pictured above, is coincidentally made in Shenyang by Christian artist Zhang Jian, and is being sold on eBay.

The blurb says:

The ark is hand-crafted from camphor wood at a scale of 1:70.  It includes a total of 88 figures hand-carved from Rose of Sharon wood and hand-painted: 8 human figures (Noah and his family), and 40 pairs of mammals, birds, and reptiles.  The figures come with small magnets on their feet that match with magnets on the ark to keep the figures upright.  This collectable Noah’s ark is a delight to children and adults.

Zhang Jian feels privileged to make unique and quality wood carvings that share a sense God’s love and connection to mankind.  Over the last 2 years he has designed and crafted 8 sets of these Arks and corresponding animals.  Mr Zhang resides in Shenyang, China where he runs a 3 man woodshop creating quality inspirational wooden products.

How Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump Measure Up On Science Issues

Added September 22, 2016
by

This is a guest post written by David G. McAfee. He is author, most recently, of The Book of Gods.

Science certainly isn’t the hottest topic on the campaign trail, but it may be one of the most important. That’s because the two frontrunners for President disagree substantially and frequently when it comes to issues that affect our future as a nation, including climate change, vaccinations, and more.

With the election approaching in less than two months, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have already made a number of statements on issues that matter most to the scientific community. These are the same topics that most drastically impact healthcare, safety, and the environment, so let’s bring them into focus.

shutterstock_458871724

Climate Change:

One of the most important issues facing our nation in future generations, global climate change, is also one that reveals the starkest contrast between Clinton and Trump. On one hand, you have a billionaire real estate magnate who has called global warming a “hoax” that was “created by and for the Chinese,” and on the other you have a politician who has warned about the “catastrophe that would result from unchecked climate change.”

Clinton has also set forth a set of national goals to generate more renewable energy, cut waste, and reduce American oil consumption, while Trump has called her plan an “extreme, reckless anti-energy agenda.”

Trump’s fervent disagreement with Clinton and science advocates around the world when it comes to global climate change has continued throughout the campaign, with no signs of slowing down, despite his position being invalidated by the scientific consensus.

Energy:

When it comes to energy in general, we see some alignment between Trump and Clinton. Both are in favor of utilizing wind, solar, and bio-fuels, but Clinton has promised to deliver on President Obama‘s Paris climate conference pledge. That includes extending smart pollution and efficiency standards, launching a $60 billion Clean Energy Challenge, investing in clean energy infrastructure, ensuring fossil fuel production is safe and responsible, and more.

Trump has said his priority is “to achieve energy independence”:

A thriving market system will allow consumers to determine the best sources of energy for future consumption. Further, with the United States, Canada and Mexico as the key energy producers in the world, we will live in a safer, more productive and more prosperous world.

It should also be noted that Trump has proposed bombing oil fields in the hands of ISIL and attacking North Korean nuclear facilities, actions for which the consequences could be unimaginable.

Vaccines:

When it comes to life-saving vaccinations, we see another major difference between the two frontrunner candidates. Trump claimed in 2014 that vaccines cause autism, despite the fact that the hypothesis has been thoroughly debunked, and has continued to push similar rhetoric since then. Clinton, however, has been an advocate of vaccines and their efficacy. She once tweeted, “The science is clear: The earth is round, the sky is blue, and #vaccineswork. Let’s protect all our kids.”

In a recent presidential science survey, Clinton said she would press hard for the elimination of deadly diseases through the use of vaccines and Trump said the public should be educated “on the values of a comprehensive vaccination program.” Neither candidate has outwardly opposed all vaccines.

Education:

When asked about how American students have fallen behind in science and math rankings around the world, Clinton promoted Obama’s “Computer Science for All” initiative and promised to invest in updated lesson programs. She also promised to support the training of 50,000 computer science teachers over the course of 10 years. Trump’s answer to that same question was, “There are a host of STEM programs already in existence.”

What the federal government should do is to make sure that educational opportunities are available for everyone. This means we must allow market influences to bring better, higher quality educational circumstances to more children.

Trump also says state and local governments should manage public education institutions, and not the Department of Education.

Until more choices are provided in our cities, those who tout their concern about educational outcomes cannot be taken seriously.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

This is only a small sampling of the important science issues on which Trump and Clinton diverge, but it does give you an idea of where the candidates’ priorities lie. When it comes to matters of science, those issues that could help shape our nation for future generations, you can never analyze too much. In this case, a brief analysis shows how Trump is behind the curve when it comes to the American public and what matters most, while Clinton seems to grasp the crucial issues more completely.

‘Don’t doubt Trump’s faith’ says VP nominee Mike Pence

Added September 21, 2016

Religious voters in the US should have no reservations about Donald Trump’s commitment to Christianity, says Mike Pence, above left, the Republican Governor of Indiana.

According to this report, Vice-President nominee Pence said there is no question as to the authenticity of the Republican presidential nominee’s faith.

During the Family Research Council’s annual Values Voters Summit held on Saturday, Pence vowed to champion faith values and promote religious liberty, defund abortion service provider Planned Parenthood, and champion pro-family policies.

Donald Trump and I know that to confront these challenging times, we have to recognise that our present crisis is not merely economic and political, but moral in nature.

We will not restore this nation with public policy alone. It will require public virtue. And that emanates from the traditional institutions of our nation of family and religion.

At the centre of all of our policies will be the notion of the importance and the paramount importance of the family, and also will be at the centre of our policies will be a commitment to ensure the vitality and the freedom of religion of every American and every religious institution in the land.

During their campaign, Pence said he and Trump wanted to make it a point to pray together. But with so many things to do, Pence said he was not sure if Trump would be able to do that. He was pleased, though, to find out that the presidential hopeful would always find a way to pray.

I thought it might have passed out of his mind. It might have been something we’d forget. But, no, sure enough, he came walking right up to me and he grabbed me by the hand and grabbed my wife and my daughter by the hand, and he asked Karen to pray. And she did.

Because of that simple gesture, Pence is convinced Trump’s devotion to God is genuine, and it’s not something he conveniently came up with to lure voters.

I’ll tell you what. I think at the very core, the very heart, of this good man is a faith,. It’s a faith in God and a faith in the American people.

And what I ask you to do today is to work every day in what remains of this election to restore that kind of faith back to the centre of the American government. We can do it, but it’s not going to be done without you.

Education Minister says religion should trump science

Added September 20, 2016

Israel’s Education Minister Naftali Bennett, above, last week stressed the importance of Jewish studies over secular subjects.

He was quoted here as saying:

Learning about Judaism and excellence in the subject is more important in my eyes than mathematics and the sciences – and it is hard for me to say that.

His comments came months after controversy erupted over a government decision to drop its demand that ultra-Orthodox schools teach science, math and other core subjects in order to receive increased state funding.

Bennett had originally pushed against dropping the core subjects, but later bowed to coalition pressures.

Even though [Israel] is a high-tech superpower, an exporter of knowledge and innovation to the world, we must [also] be a spiritual superpower and export spiritual knowledge to the world. This is the next chapter of our Zionist vision.

In this way we will return to be a light to the nations. ‘For out of Zion shall go forth Torah and the word of God from Jerusalem’.

We are Jews … We must also be the people of the Bible.

But on Facebook, MK Elazar Stern (Zionist Union) chided Bennett for putting one before the other. Both are vital, he maintained.

There’s no preferential order – Jewish studies without math won’t be able to strengthen the Jewish state. And mathematics without Judaism (in its many forms) will send our mathematicians and scientists to Silicon Valley or Berlin.

Last month the Knesset rolled back a law that aimed to promote broader education by reducing funding to schools that did not teach core subjects. Bennett had initially supported the law, which was submitted by the Yesh Atid party and would have cut funding for ultra-Orthodox schools that do not devote a minimum number of weekly hours to core secular subjects such as math, English, and science.

Meanwhile, it is reported here that a school in High Wycombe has apologised for handing out a question in a maths test which stated God intended all people to be straight.

rgs

Headmaster Philip Wayne said:

I’m sorry on behalf of the whole school community of governors, staff and boys for any offence this has caused.

He revealed that the question was set as part of an additional test to higher-level maths students by a former full-time teacher who retired “a long time ago”.

He continued to volunteer at the school and recently handed out the test before the question was spotted by some students.

Wayne added:

First few boys to pick up the test, noticed the question concerned and referred it to staff.  As soon as it was picked up it was quickly withdrawn from the department.
He [the school volunteer] will not be returning to RGS. Staff are expected to abide by the teachers standards if they’re on the payroll or not.

Wayne also pointed out:

Social media has done its work very quickly as you can imagine, and when it was brought to my attention and I dealt with it.

The school, which was founded in the 16th century, regularly features as one of the top boys’ grammar school across the country.

Last month it celebrated another strong set of GCSE and A-Level results, with teachers being praised for their hard work in helping students achieve top marks.

LGBT rights charity Stonewall has highlighted the importance of tackling discrimination within school, while praising RGS for dealing with concerns quickly.

Senior communications officer at Stonewall, Matt Horwood, said:

It’s encouraging to see that this incident was dealt with as soon as it was raised, but demonstrates how important it is for staff to be equipped to prevent and tackle LGBT discrimination in all of its forms.

All children should be able to experience school as an inclusive learning space, and should absolutely never feel ostracised or mistreated by either the language or materials used by teaching staff or volunteers.

Priest who pitted himself against Satan’s hordes is dead

Added September 20, 2016

Veteran Catholic exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth has died at the age of 91.

The National Catholic Register reports that he had performed over 70,000 exorcisms over 29 years. In 1990, he founded the International Association of Exorcists and was President until he retired, in 2000.

In one of his last interviews, Amorth blamed “pure atheism” for the sorry state of the planet:

Today the world does not turn from God because it is idolatrous; rather it pursues pure atheism, so as to put science on the altar.

By turning away from the Lord, he said scientific breakthroughs “are put to disastrous use” and that without the Lord, “progress too is misused”.

We see it in laws that go totally against nature such as divorce, abortion and  ‘gay marriage’. We have forgotten God! Therefore, God will soon admonish humanity in a very powerful manner, He knows how to remind us of His presence.

Divorce has been a disaster; abortion has been a disaster. Each year 50 million children are murdered by abortion. And euthanasia, the broken family, cohabitation … It is all destruction!

Often sought out by media around the world for his views on exorcism and understanding the struggle against evil, Father Amorth once confirmed that he thought Hitler and Stalin were “certainly” possessed by the Devil, but denied that that fact removed their own personal responsibility for their actions.

They followed “the promptings of the devil and they have done so willingly,” Father Amorth said in a 2006 interview.

Therefore they are guilty, completely responsible.

When asked if there were any leaders today who could be similarly possessed, the exorcist said there are:

Many who listen to the temptations of Satan and follow him.

The Independent reported that the Italian priest, who was the chief exorcist for the diocese of Rome, controversially claimed Harry Potter books encouraged children to believe in black magic and yoga is “evil” because it promotes Hinduism.

Father Amorth believed people possessed by Satan tend to vomit pieces of iron and shards of glass. and he credited the 1973 film The Exorcist for giving a “substantially exact” representation of what it was like to be possessed by Satan.

While Father Amorth’s death is a blow for the diocese of Rome, exorcisms will still be carried out by its other nine resident exorcists, said the Independent.

Orthodox Jews sentenced for attack on gay black man

Added September 19, 2016

A Brooklyn judge this week sentenced two Hasidic men to 150 hours of community service for their part in the vicious beating of a gay black man, Taj Patterson.

taj28n-1-web

Taj Patterson

According to this report, Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun had delayed the sentencing of Pinchas Braver and Abraham Winkler, above, so they could find an appropriate organisation in which to serve their community service.

Braver’s attorney Robert LaRusso admitted that it was “not difficult” to find the right organisation.

It’s not a problem – it’s just being able to satisfy the prosecutor that the agency in which we are asking the community service to be performed is satisfactory to them.

Braver, the younger of the two, and Winkler had suggested participating at Chai Lifeline, an organisation located in Borough Park that caters to Jewish children with life-threatening illnesses.

The organisation is located outside of Williamsburg where the December 2013 attack occurred, but does not fit the criteria prosecutors suggested as “culturally diverse”.

The pair were part of a gang of Hasidic vigilantes who attacked Patterson, leaving him blind in his right eye.

Braver and Winkler were the only two to admit guilt. Two others had their cases dropped and the trial of a fifth man, Mayer Herskovic, starts next week.

Justice Chun informed the pair they have 30 days to find another organisation or let the Department of Probation place them in a programme.

They also received an extension to pay $1,400 restitution to the victim.

Patterson, who was attacked by members of a “security patrol” – brought a lawsuit against the city of New York in June of this year. His lawyers claim that the city and the New York Police Department created an atmosphere in which Hasidic “security patrols” not only got official recognition and money, but could act with impunity.

The lawsuit alleged:

The City’s policies have essentially created a private police force with special connections to the NYPD, funded and outfitted by the City, without any supervision of that force.

At the culmination of another New York trial this week, Bayna Lekheim El-Amin, 42, above, was jailed for nine years for an attack on two gay men.

El-Amin, who is gay himself and stands 6 ft 6 inches, reportedly over-reacted when one of his victims, a much smaller Jonathan Snipes, 33, smacked him in the face with a “soft, small purse”.

An enraged El-Amin, according to this report, then knocked Snipes to the ground and stomped on his head. Later he picked up a chair and swung it at the heads of Snipes and his boyfriend, Ethan York-Adams.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arlene Goldberg said the accused may have been slapped by one of the victims with a canvas bag but had no right to react with the brutal beating.

That you did not cause serious physical injury to them was only by luck.

Man jailed for the murder of Rochdale’s ‘black magic’ imam

Added September 18, 2013

Mohammed Syeedy, 21was jailed for a minimum of 24 years for his role in the brutal killing of Jalal Uddin.

The 71-year-old former imam, according to this report, practised taweez, a form of Islamic spiritual healing considered to be “black magic” by some extremists.

On hearing the jury’s guilty verdict, Syeedy put his head in his hands and shook it in disbelief. In the public gallery, his family gasped and sobbed.

Uddin’s family, who travelled from Bangladesh to Manchester to attend the three-week trial, hugged and sobbed after Syeedy was led away.

The murder alarmed counter-terrorism experts, who fear that homegrown extremists are increasingly targeting fellow Muslims who they view as “heretics”.

Uddin, above, was bludgeoned to death with a hammer on his way home from a mosque in Rochdale on February 18. He was attacked with repeated, forceful blows from behind after having been under surveillance by his killers for months, the trial at Manchester crown court heard.

He was a former imam at the mosque Syeedy attended.

Jurors were told that Syeedy and his accomplice, Mohammed Abdul Kadir, stalked Uddin around the streets of Rochdale before Kadir launched the attack on the older man in a children’s playground.

Syeedy, the getaway driver, denied knowing about the murder plot.

Kadir, a former John Lewis call centre worker, was not on trial because he fled to Istanbul three days after the murder. Counter-terrorism detectives are hunting for the 24-year-old, but believe he may have crossed the border into Syria to join Isis.

Syeedy and Kadir, from Rochdale and Oldham respectively, developed a hatred of Uddin last summer after discovering he practised  taweez.

Uddin moved to Rochdale 15 years ago from Bangladesh. The former imam was well known in the area for his use of healing amulets to cure ill health and protect people from “evil spirits”.

Uddin, known as the Qari Saab by his followers for his deep understanding of the Koran, was mocked as a magician by Syeedy and his friends, who nicknamed him Voldemort after the evil wizard in the Harry Potter books.

Six months before the murder, Syeedy and his friends destroyed Uddin’s notes and books on taweez after stealing them from their mosque. They then started monitoring Uddin’s whereabouts, taking covert pictures of him in the street.

When detectives arrested Syeedy five days after the murder, they found gruesome footage on his phone of Uddin dying, along with reams of Isis propaganda.

Jurors were shown photographs of Syeedy holding an Isis-style flag outside the Jalalia mosque. In another image, he wore a stab-proof vest outside the mosque.

Other photographs showed Syeedy and two people holding a jihadi flag over a road sign in Rochdale that had been altered to read: “War zone”.

Detectives also found a black, Isis-style baseball cap, arm patches and a flag in Syeedy’s home, where he lived with his mother, younger sister and younger brother.

Paul Greaney QC, prosecuting, told the court that Syeedy had been drawn in by Isis propaganda surrounding the Syrian war over a period of three years.

Giving evidence, Syeedy denied knowing anything about Uddin’s murder, but admitted he was with Kadir before and after the attack.

He said he never suspected that his friend, who he knew was an Isis sympathiser, had killed Uddin, even though the former imam was found dead moments after Kadir left the playground.

Syeedy, an electrical engineering student who dropped out of university, denied being an Isis supporter and described the group’s actions as “completely wrong”.

He told jurors he did not agree with Uddin’s use of taweez because it was dangerous to meddle with the supernatural world, but that it was up to God to deliver the punishment. He told the jury:

How can the grisly slaughter of animals be called ‘cheerful?’

Added September 17, 2016

Each year Muslims revel in the savage slaughter of millions of animals during Eid al Adha, a barbaric feast of sacrifice.

This year the sacrifices in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka were particularly messy.

Police had allowed the traditional slaughter to take place in certain designated areas of the city, but heavy downpours caused many roads to run red with a mixture of water and blood.

The cruelty involved in this disgusting festival should be roundly condemned by world leaders.

But what we get instead are messages of goodwill to Muslims celebrating Eid.

putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin, above, for example, described the festival as “cheerful”.

Russian news agency Interfax reported that Putin had congratulated Russian Muslims on the Eid al Adha (Kurban Bayram) holiday, saying:

For centuries this cheerful holiday has been playing a huge role in the life of the Muslim Ummah; it bolsters unity between people, introduces them to the timeless values of Islam and fosters their caring and respectful attitude towards ancient history, customs and legacy of ancestors.

The President welcomed the fact that Russian Muslims cherished their spiritual traditions and widely celebrated Kurban Bayram.

The Muslim Ummah is actively participating in the country’s life and is making a significant contribution to education of the younger generation and promotion of the inter-religious and inter-ethnic dialogue. Indeed, its activity is very important for maintaining the peace and accord in society.

may

UK Prime Minister Theresa May also felt the need to reach out to Muslims during Eid.

To all Muslims in Britain and around the world I wish you a blessed Eid al-Adha. I know this festival means a great deal to communities, a time when families and friends are brought together to pray and feast, and Muslims across different continents are brought together in faith.

And as you share in that spirit of togetherness, I think proudly of the many ways people in this country connect with each other and enrich our nation’s life.

I see this in politics where British Muslims are making a real difference, in enterprise and the running of multi-million pound businesses, and in the courage and dedication of those who safeguard our streets and serve in our armed forces.

I see this in the charity and compassion of our Muslim communities, whose members give so generously to those less fortunate … I am proud of the contribution British Muslims make to this country, and proud that Britain is home to people from vibrant and diverse backgrounds.

So to all Muslims, in this country and around the world, I want to say Eid Mubarak. I wish you a happy and peaceful Eid.

Devout Christian admits child rape – and blames his victim

Added September 16, 2016

When Richard Keenan, above, became Mayor of Hubbard in Ohio in 2010 he vowed to add a liberal dose of Jesus to his office.

At the time, Keenan was quoted by The Vindicator as saying:

I’m a Christian. Dedicating my life to Jesus has changed my life.

‘Don’t preach it, but live it’ is a practice he takes to heart. That idea is wrapped up in wanting the best for his town.

This week Keenan, a former probation officer, found himself in The Vindicator again – this time under the headline “Prosecutor: Ex-Hubbard mayor admitted child rape guilt“.

The Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office said in a legal filing on Monday that Keenan admitted on several occasions that he raped and molesting a child over a three-year period – beginning when she was just four. Furthermore, he blamed the abuse on the girl.

Keenan, who served as Hubbard mayor in 2010 and 2011, has been indicted on eight counts of rape and 12 counts of attempted rape and gross sexual imposition. A rape conviction carries a sentence of life in prison.

According to the filing by Assistant Prosecutor Gabriel Wildman, Keenan, 65, made the admissions to his wife, a pastor, a social worker and his brother and sister-in-law.

Wildman’s filing states that when Keenan’s wife, Diana, heard about the assaults from the child, she confronted him and he admitted his crime.

The filing states Keenan also admitted sexual abuse during “group discussions” while he was in the ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital psychiatric ward.

The filing goes into extensive detail about each of the purported admissions.

It states that after Keenan voluntarily admitted himself into a Warren psychiatric facility after his release from Trumbull, he told a social worker that he was:

Feeling suicidal because he had been molesting the child victim for approximately the past two years.

During those discussions, Keenan blamed the victim for initiating the acts and called her:

A willing participant.

Keenan also had “in-depth” conversations with a pastor about the abuse.

Wildman has filed a motion asking Judge Peter Kontos to decide if those admissions – particularly by Keenan’s wife, pastor and medical personnel – meet the standards that permit their submission to a jury, or if the statements are privileged, meaning they could not be used in the trial.

Messages left for J Gerald Ingram, Keenan’s defence attorney, were not returned. A hearing on Wildman’s evidence motion has been set for January 20, 2017.

According to Rule 601 of the Ohio Rules of Evidence, a spouse is considered “competent to be a witness” against the other spouse “if the testifying spouse elects to testify.”

As for the pastor’s possible testimony, the Ohio Revised Code states that a member of the clergy cannot be compelled to testify:

If the confession or confidential communication was made directly to the cleric.

Keenan remains free on $75,000 bond. His trial is scheduled to begin April 24, 2017.

Is there a physical space?

Some consequences of the garbled languages of today

The name of the biggest spoiler is Albert Einstein. He is a big man because he is the biggest spoiler.

Einstein confuses physics and mathematics.

There are no mathematical objects in the physical reality. The mathematical objects (for example different mathematical spaces) are only concepts in the human brains.

Thats why the space can not be curved.

The ray of the light can be curved for many reasons. One of the reasons is the gravitation. Einstein confuses the gravitation and the space.

Many scientists believe that the Einsteins theory of the gravitation is true because the gravitation is a real cause of many phenomens which Einstein asserted to be implications of his theory.

My late teacher of mathematics, professor Raimo Lehti, said, that mathematics could be different than our mathematics.

I think that the main reason for the confisions is that there is no real philosophy of mathematics (I have many books which assert to contain philosophy of mathematics).

Hate preacher says Devil has taken hold of South Africa

Added September 15, 2016

As pressure mounted to have US preacher Steven Anderson barred from entering South Africa on a ‘soul-winning’ mission, the homophobic lunatic said yesterday that the country was ‘a den of iniquity’.

South Africa has one of the most liberal constitutions in the world which protects gay rights.

He is quoted here as saying:

I literally believe that South Africa is some kind of a demonic stronghold.

He added that there had been “much wickedness” in South Africa during its history.

It’s like the devil has a hold on that place.

Well, the BBC reports today that Anderson has officially been barred from entering the country because of his hateful remarks about homosexuality.

Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba said he was refused a visa as the constitution prohibits hate speech:

I have identified Steven Anderson as an undesirable person to travel to South Africa.

Anderson runs the Faithful Word Baptist Church, which says that homosexuality is an abomination punishable by the death penalty.

He reacted to the ban by saying in a Facebook post that religious freedom no longer existed in South Africa.

I feel sorry for people who live in South Africa, but thank God we still have a wide open door in Botswana.

Two petitions with more than 60,000 signatures, organised by gay and human rights activists in South Africa, had called for the trip to be stopped.

Anderson’s church is based in the Arizona and describes itself as:

An old-fashioned, independent, fundamental, King James Bible only, soul-winning Baptist church.

For the record, King James was GAY! But a Chick Tracts video claims that James was the victim of a smear campaign, and that, even if he was gay and ‘a devil’:

Guess what, he had nothing to to do with the King James Bible.

In a video posted on YouTube before South Africa’s decision was made, Anderson said that the trip was not going to be about homosexuality, but he stood by his views against homosexuality, which he said were endorsed by the Bible.

He warned that Gigaba would be “damned” for standing with the “sodomites”.

Christian TV entertainer charged with raping a girl

Added September 14, 2016

Toby Willis, above — father of a litter of 12 home-schooled kids – was arrested at the weekend and charged with the rape of an underage girl.

Willis and his conservative Christian brood first came to the attention of US TV viewers when they featured on TLC’s reality show The Willis Family.

A TLC spokesman is reported here as saying that the channel was “shocked” to learn that Willis, 46, had been arrested and charged by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) for raping the girl 12 years ago.

TBI agents carried out a days-long investigation of the charges against Willis.

The Duggar-like musical family were the stars of their own reality show about traveling the country spreading the Christian gospel and performing country music.

However, due to poor ratings, TLC canceled the show in April.

Willis was apprehended in Kentucky where he fled in an attempt to evade arrest. He will be extradited to Tennessee’s Cheatham County Jail, where he will be held without bond.

Willis and his wife Brenda — like devout Baptists Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar — are Quiverfull parents, adherents to a Christian dominionist sect that encourages married couples to produce as many offspring as possible in order to raise an army of believers.

The word “Quiverfull” comes from the Old Testament Psalms of the Christian Bible. Psalm 127 says:

Children are a blessing from the Lord…happy is the man who has his quiver full of them.

The Duggar family has had problems of its own, with eldest son Josh confessing to molesting underage girls — including his sisters — as a teen. Then Josh was revealed to have cheated on his wife through the website Ashley Madison.

According to a site called God Updates:

If you thought raising 12 kids was impressive, Brenda went ahead and raised the bar by home schooling each one! As a college graduate and her high school’s valedictorian,  she could have chosen to be a working mom. But she and Toby knew they wanted a big family, so Brenda chose to make her kids her career (which is clearly right where God wanted her).

God Updates adds:

Toby was a state champion wrestler, and just assumed he’d have all boys to follow in his wrestling footsteps. Then God sent him 8 girls and he was left asking, ‘What in the world do you do with daughters?’

The answer became clear after Toby and Brenda saw a performance of “Riverdance”.

As it turned out, the boys were just as talented in Irish dancing as their sisters and the siblings have performed all over the US and in Ireland.

Sikh temple ceremony goes horribly wrong; 55 are arrested

Added September 13, 2016

A Sikh temple in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, was the scene of an eight-hour armed protest today which ended in the arrest of 55 people.

The incident occurred at the Gurdwara Sahibat where a marriage between a Sikh and a non-Sikh was due to take place, according to the BBC.

Police said a group of men – some with bladed weapons – entered the Gurdwara Sahib in Leamington Spa early this morning to protest against the mixed marriage.

Former treasurer Jatinder Singh Birdi said:

There have been tensions that have been going on for a couple of years with some people objecting to mixed marriages in taking place in the gurdwara.

The general consensus is people are respectful of mixed marriages if the traditions are respected.

Nothing has happened on this level before. This is meant to be one of the happiest moments of somebody’s life – it shows a lack of respect.

Supt David Gardner said the protest came from “the escalation of a local dispute”. He said a “significant number of bladed weapons” were seized, but no injuries were reported.

Over the coming days we will be working with the local Sikh community to address some of the ongoing issues that have culminated in today’s events.

A force spokesman said several of the weapons seized were kirpans, ceremonial daggers that are carried by Sikhs as an act of faith.

The group Sikh 2 Inspire said in a statement on its Facebook page that sending armed police in response to “peaceful protestors” showed how the items were misunderstood and the Sikh faith was being “victimised”.

They don’t have have an appropriate understanding of the Sikh community and have not found appropriate representatives from the Sikh community to balance the malicious viewpoints presented.

It added:

The media has once again misunderstood and misrepresented an issue affecting the Sikhs and have taken advantage of both the date (9/11) and the situation to create ridiculous headlines.

An organisation called Sikh Youth UK claimed in a statement that it was responsible for the protest.

It pointed out that last year in Southall, London:

A resolution was approved by the Sikh Council UK that Gurdwareh will no longer offer a Sikh marriage for an interfaith couple. This resolution was in line with a previous ruling from the highest seat of Sikh power, the Sri Akal Takaht Sahib in Amritsar, Punjab.

The Akal Takaht ruling states that Sikh marriage should only be for Sikh couples, but that interfaith couples were free to conduct a court marriage.

It added the Leamington protest:

Is an example of a rogue Gurdwara committee creating discord among the UK Sikh diaspora, by not only ignoring the ruling of the Akal Takaht, which is binding for all Sikhs, but also the resolution that was agreed at last year’s meetings.

Sikh Youth UK is an award winning charitable organisation dedicated to working for the benefit of the Sikh community. We are deeply saddened by the way in which the Leamington Gurdwara committee have conducted themselves. Local Sikh youth attended the early morning prayers at the Gurdwara and began a sit down peaceful protest by reciting prayers.

Seeing that the youth were traditionally dressed and carrying their Kirpans, as Sikhs all over the world do, the committee called the police and falsely reported that “armed men” had taken over the Gurdwara. This kind of behaviour alienates Sikh youth from trusting such Gurdwara committees’ ability to resolve the issue an amicable and mature way.

We sincerely hope that the Leamington Gurdwara committee stops creating divisions in the community and honours its role as a Gurdwara to educate the future generations about Sikh faith, history and values.

Church fearful for the safety of alleged paedophile priest

Added September 12, 2016

The Russian Orthodox Church has agreed to do what it can to help protect priest Gleb Grozovsky, above, who has just been extradited from Israel to Russia to face child abuse charges,

According to the Russian news service, Interfax, the crimes the priest stands accused of “normally draws aggression from inmates”.

Roman Silantyev, Director of the Human Rights Center of the World Russian People’s Council said:

I have now contacted church representatives who are responsible for liaison with the Federal Penitentiary Service and asked them to help protect him.

Silantyev added that representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church “reacted positively” to his request.

It was reported that in February that the Supreme Court of Israel issued a final ruling to extradite Grozovsky to Russia.

It’s alleged that, in the summer of 2011, Grozovsky, who then was a cleric at the Ascension (St Sophia) Cathedral in Tsarskoye Selo, sexually abused several individuals under 14 years of age on the grounds of an Orthodox children’s camp on Konevets Island, Priozyorsky District, Leningrad Region.

Grozovsky is also accused of committing similar acts at Philadelphia, an Orthodox children’s and youth club, where he was rector of John the Warrior Church, in Greece in June 2013.

When he absconded in October 2013 he was arrested in absentia and placed on the international wanted list.

According to the BBC, Grozovsky denies corrupting two girls aged nine and 12 at the Russian Orthodox summer camp in Greece.

Russia first asked for the priest’s extradition in November 2013, when he was in Israel on Church business.

He had applied for Israeli citizenship but was turned down and was asked to leave the country. This April, Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked signed the order for his extradition.

The extradition process was delayed when his lawyers appealed to the Israeli supreme court, on grounds that his life would be in danger back in Russia, but the appeal was rejected last month.

Grozovsky was suspended from his priestly duties by the Russian Orthodox Church after the charges against him were announced.

Bible Commands Christians to Kill Nonbelievers

Added September 11, 2016

One often hears that it is not religious belief itself that is problematic but religious extremism.

This sounds appealing until one realizes that the presence of religious believers, including religious moderates, is what often shields religious extremists from criticism.

That is, the presence of religious moderates seems to provide a context in which religious extremism doesn't seem nearly as irrational and dangerous as it probably should. Moderate believers make it more difficult to question even the most extreme religious beliefs.

But isn't it a bit of an exaggeration to say that religious extremism is actually dangerous? Maybe some Islamic extremists are dangerous, but surely there is nothing wrong with their Christian counterparts in the U.S.!

I mean, isn't their "holy" book mostly about how they should be nice to others (e.g., love thy neighbor and all that)? Even if many seem to ignore these parts and treat others with anything but kindness, doesn't their instruction book at least convey that positive message?

Let's examine the Christian bible for a moment:
Deuteronomy 17
If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant; 17:3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded; 17:4 And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel; 17:5 Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.
Fairly clear, isn't it? A book, claimed by many to be "holy" in some way, instructs people to murder persons who do not believe in their god. Why haven't we heard more about this? Because many Christians are content to ignore certain parts of their bible while obsessing about others (i.e., cherry picking). And what of those who do not ignore such parts of their "sacred" text? We call them extremists...or worse.

Supporters shout ‘God is great’ as hate preacher is jailed

Added September 9, 2016

Muslim hate preacher Anjem Choudary, above left, has been jailed for five-and-a-half years for inviting support for Islamic State. As he was sentenced, his supporters stood up in the public gallery of the Old Bailey in London and shouted Allahu Akbar – Arabic for God is Great.

According to the BBC, the judge, Mr Justice Holroyde, described Choudary as calculating and dangerous, and passed the same sentence on Choudary’s sidekick Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, 33, above right.

Both men were also sentenced to a 15-year notification order, which requires them to inform police if personal details such as their addresses change.

Choudary, of Ilford, east London, and Rahman, from Palmers Green, north London, were convicted last month of inviting support for IS – an offence contrary to section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000 –  in 2014 and 2015.

The trial heard the pair also used speeches to urge support for IS, also known as Daesh, after it declared a caliphate in the summer of 2014.

Counter-terrorism chiefs blame the preacher and the proscribed organisations which he helped to run, such as al-Muhajiroun, for radicalising young men and women including the killers of soldier Lee Rigby in 2013.

But they said they had been unable to act for many years as Choudary – a former solicitor – had stayed “just within the law”.

He will begin his sentence in the high security unit – a prison within a prison –  at HMP Belmarsh in south-east London. Only a few of the most dangerous individuals in the country are ever held there at one time – and the priority will be to keep him apart from the impressionable minds whom Holroyde said he did so much to influence.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd said:

This is a serious custodial sentence, and it’s a tribute to the work of the police and security services. The country is safer. All their evil words and dissent they’ve tried to sow throughout society is over. They’re paying the price and they’re going to jail.

Sue Hemming, CPS head of counter terrorism said:

Both men were fully aware that Daesh is a proscribed terrorist group responsible for brutal activities and that what they themselves were doing was illegal. Those who invite others to support such organisations will be prosecuted and jailed for their crimes.

The head of the Metropolitan Police’s counter terrorism command, Commander Dean Haydon, said the pair caused:

Frustration for both law enforcement agencies and communities as they spread hate. We have watched Choudary developing a media career as spokesman for the extremists, saying the most distasteful of comments, but without crossing the criminal threshold.

This has been a significant prosecution in our fight against terrorism, and we will now be working with communities to ensure that they are not replaced by others spreading hate.

Kalsoom Bashir from counter-extremism organisation Inspire, said she was relieved the law had caught up with Choudary, saying he has been described as:

The gateway to terror. He has enticed those individuals who were on the fringes of society towards supporting violent extremism and giving them, behind closed doors, justification for committing acts of violence in the name of terror – those who heard him then went on to commit those acts of terror.

Hannah Stuart, research fellow at The Henry Jackson Society – a think tank which aims to combat extremism – said Choudary and Rahman will continue to pose a threat even in prison, due to their:

Low likelihood of rehabilitation. It is key that their Internet access be restricted and that staff are able to identify their efforts to influence communal environments, such as Friday prayers or informal social settings.

In court, Choudary refused to stand up in the dock as his sentencing hearing began.

Passing sentence, Holroyde, said the pair had:

Crossed the line between the legitimate expression of your own views and a criminal act. A significant proportion of those listening to your words would be impressionable persons looking to you for guidance on how to act.

He told Choudary he had failed to condemn “any aspect” of what IS was doing, adding:

In that way you indirectly encouraged violent terrorist activity.

The judge said that in one of Choudary’s speeches he referred “happily to the prospect of the flag of Islam flying over 10 Downing Street and the White House”, and in another set out his ambitions for Islam to “dominate the whole world”.

Choudary’s supporters included the men who murdered Fusilier Lee Rigby – Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale.

Pastor accused of operating a brothel at a Nigerian church

Pastor accused of operating a brothel at a Nigerian church

Added September 8, 2016

Following news last week that a Nigerian pastor, Chukwuemeka Nwocha, General Overseer of the Tongue of Fire Restoration Ministry in Lagos, Nigeria, was facing charges relating to 13 girls he allegedly kept as sex slaves, it was reported yesterday that  Idowu Olupinla, above, has been arrested by the police in Ogun State for allegedly operating a teenage prostitution ring.

Olupinla, 54, pastor and founder of Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Ijoko-Ota, Ogun State, was paraded alongside some of her victims at Eleweran Police Headquarters, Abeokuta.

Police allege that she specialised in hooking up male sex customers with teenage girls aged between 14 to 16.

The police said three of the girls were rescued. They lived in the church premises with the woman.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Ahmed Ilyasu, at a press briefing yesterday said the victims had been taken to a hospital.

He said the suspect would soon be charged to court for human trafficking and child abuse.

One of the victims said many of the girls were from broken homes and sought a place to stay before they were lured into prostitution by the woman.

The 16-year-old said she lived with Olupinla for about a year along with about nine other girls.

We are about 10 with Mama, and she always arrange men for us to have sex. She created apartment within the church premises, where the men sleep with us. We charge N500 (£1.20) per sex in which Mama will collect N300 and give us N200.

She said each girl makes an average of about N1,500 per day inclusive of Olupinla’s commission.

The teenager said many of the girls had multiple abortions so as to continue living in the church and that she has had five abortions.

The suspect, however, denied the allegations. She said she only provided a place to live for the homeless girls.

Blogger arrested for playing Pokémon Go in a church

pokemon

Added September 7, 2016

Ruslan Sokovsky, above, a young Russian blogger from Yekaterinburg, has been arrested for playing Pokémon Go in a church, then posting a video of his ‘crime’.

Sokovsky, according to this report, was acting in defiance of an earlier warning broadcast by a Russian state news programme against catching Pokémon on the state border or in places of worship.

He was arrested on September 3 after the authorities got wind of the fact that he has played the game in the Church on Blood in Honour of All Saints Resplendent in the Russian Land, a local Orthodox church built to commemorate the murder of Tsar Nicholas II and his family.

Police considered this to be a violation of the Russian law against mockery of religious beliefs.

In the video Sokolovsky asked before heading to the building:

Who can be offended by the fact that you’re walking around a church with a smartphone?

A handcuffed Sokolovsky is led to court

A week after his caper, Valery Gorelykh, a spokesperson for the regional police department, said that the video would be checked for violations of law. He also expressed his personal opinion, saying that such “pokemonists” should be jailed for a minimum of five years so that others would be discouraged from committing blasphemy.

The Moscow Times adds that in early 2016, Sokolovsky launched an atheist magazine, writing:

We have been inspired by Charlie Hebdo and have decided that there are also too few such publications in Russia … Using the written word to take on the censorship piling on from all sides and what’s practically a police state now isn’t a new idea, but it’s just as relevant today as ever.

Quebec old folks’ home gets a divine message … from a spud

Added September 6, 2016

Catholics are a superstitious bunch, constantly on the look-out for miracles and wondrous signs.

potato

Alain Lévesque and Émilien Morin

So it’s no surprise that the “devout Catholic residents” at Le Mieux Vivre Residence in Grande-Rivière became ecstatic when Alain Lévesque, a cook working at the home, informed them last month that he’d found a “divine” potato with a cross at its centre.

According to CBC News the potato is being hailed as a “sign of a divine presence in the building”.

Said Émilien Morin, President of the residents’ committee at the home:

He saw it was a cross and he said, ‘It’s a sign’. He couldn’t believe it.

The home is now working on a plan to preserve the potato.

Jeannette Moreau, a residents’ committee member, is currently housing the potato in her apartment as it dries.

Morin says the potato-drying process could take up to a month, adding that the spud has started to darken but the sign of the cross at its centre is still highly visible.

He doesn’t want people to visit the vegetable until it’s fully dried and ready to be displayed in a custom-made display case.

Morin added that the potato will be on display in the dining room where all residents can enjoy being near it, and that it will make them “feel safe”.

According to the Hamilton Spectator, Morin conceded that it’s not uncommon to find holes and shapes in the middle of spuds but he believes the cross is unusual.

I’m 80 years old, and it’s the first time I’ve seen anything like this.

He says the residents are hoping the potato is the bearer of a divine message, although Morin isn’t sure what that message might be.

Who knows? Maybe it will bring nothing. It’s only a potato.

Gay bishop should never been appointed, says Anglican group

Added September 5, 2016

The appointment of the bishop of Grantham, Nicholas Chamberlain, above, was a ‘major error’, according to the conservative Anglican group Gafcon.

Chamberlain revealed he was gay and in relationship on Friday.

He was consecrated by the archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby – who has said he knew about the bishop’s sexuality.

But according to the BBC, Gafcon, a group which includes conservative Anglicans around the world, said there had been an “element of secrecy” in his appointment.

A statement from Gafcon said Chamberlain’s sexuality would “exacerbate” divisions within the Church of England and the wider Anglican world.

There are aspects of this appointment which are a serious cause for concern for biblically orthodox Anglicans around the world, and therefore we believe that this appointment is a major error.

It said the “element of secrecy” in Bishop Chamberlain’s appointment gave the impression:

That it has been arranged with the aim of presenting the Church with a ‘fait accompli’, rather than engaging with possible opposition.

The statement was signed by the Most Reverend Peter Jensen, above, former archbishop of Sydney who is the group’s general secretary, and Canon Andy Lines, who is the chairman of Gafcon’s UK task force.

A while back Jensen drew fire in Australia for warning of the “health risks” of homosexuality.

Bishop Chamberlain’s sexuality was disclosed in an interview with the Guardian, and it has been reported that he gave the interview because his private life was about to be exposed by a Sunday newspaper.

In an interview with BBC News Chamberlain said he understood the Church guidelines, which say gay clergy must remain celibate.

I never thought that I would be on the front page of a newspaper or indeed in the news in this way, because my sexuality is part of who I am, rather than the whole of who I am.

He also said he had been open about his sexuality prior to becoming a bishop.

Asked about those who were uncomfortable about his appointment as bishop, he said:

I very much understand and respect their feelings and convictions and I hope that we are all part of God’s people together.

Welby said:

His appointment as bishop of Grantham was made on the basis of his skills and calling to serve the Church in the Diocese of Lincoln. He lives within the bishops’ guidelines and his sexuality is completely irrelevant to his office.

The Gafcon statement also took the opportunity to criticise the church’s outlook on same-sex relationships.

We remain opposed to the guidelines for clergy and bishops, permitting them to be in same-sex relationships as long as they publicly declare that the relationship is not sexual.

This creates confusion in terms of the Church’s teaching on the nature of sex and marriage, and it is not modelling a helpful way to live, given the reality of our humanity, and temptation to sexual sin.

But Susie Leafe, the chairwoman of the conservative evangelical group Reform, said she sympathised with Bishop Chamberlain for having been:

Hounded by the secular press and forced into making a statement. All human beings have a range of complex desires; who he is attracted to should not make any difference to his ability to do the job of a bishop.

It is thought no serving bishop has ever before gone public about their sexuality. But the former archbishop of York, Lord Hope, said in 1995 that his sexuality was a “grey area”.

The dean of St Albans, the Very Reverend Jeffrey John, withdrew from the selection process to become bishop of Reading in 2003 after an angry reaction from traditionalist Anglicans about his sexuality.

A Church of England spokesman said:

Nicholas has not misled anyone and has been open and truthful if asked. The matter is not secret, although it is private as is the case with all partnerships/relationships.

The Rev Sally Hitchiner, who is gay and runs the LGBT support group Diverse Church, told the BBC she was looking forward to the day that a bishop’s sexuality was not a news story.

He’s being very clear that he’s sticking within the Church of England guidelines and being celibate. Most of us in the Church do know about people who are gay in high office.

Vatican staging a ‘black magic’ ceremony for Mother Teresa

Added September 4, 2016

A petition launched in India, demanding that the country should not send a top-level delegation to the Vatican to attend the canonisation of Mother Teresa, sets out a a comprehensive list of reasons why India should boycott the event.

The list includes:

There have been several cases against Mother Teresa for financial irregularities as well as accepting donations from dubious people and sending it to Roman Catholic Church. Unless such cases are thoroughly investigated, how can the government provide legitimacy to a saint who has a very fraudulent background?

And:

The hospice in Calcutta through which Mother Teresa gained such wide recognition is very small (80 beds) and provides little medical care. Needles are reused, all patients are forced to have their heads shaven, visitors are forbidden and painkillers are rarely if ever used. The nurses do not speak the language of the people and are not usually involved in the care of the patients. This duty is assumed by volunteers.

But according to The Guardian, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, paid tribute to Mother Teresa in a radio broadcast, saying:

She devoted her whole life to the poor. When such a person is conferred with sainthood, it is natural for Indians to feel proud.

The petition has attracted a pathetic 1,318 signatures.

Contrast that with the fact that half a million people are expected to attend the canonisation in a ceremony that will be transmitted live to her adopted home of Kolkata and Catholic audiences worldwide. Proof, if it were needed, that truth is never permitted to impede the workings the Catholic Church’s immense propaganda and cash-generating operations.

The Guardian reverentially added:

The two-hour mass in St Peter’s Square, led by Pope Francis almost 19 years after she died will transform the diminutive nun who became a global icon for her work with the poor into Saint Teresa of Kolkata.

Pilgrims will venerate her relics and have the opportunity to buy 1.5m commemorative 95c postage stamps, released today, that celebrate:stamp

Her great strength, simplicity and extraordinary humility … [and] tireless dedication.

In the lead-up to Sunday’s mass, images of Mother Teresa have been publicly displayed in and around the Vatican. A series of seminars, feasts, musical events and prayer sessions held for visiting pilgrims have emphasised the parallels between her life’s work and Pope Francis’s central message of social justice and humility.

In Kolkata, three months of commemorations are planned, including book launches, art shows, a stadium mass and the installation last week of a lifesize bronze statue of the nun.

But Hindu nationalists have claimed that Mother Teresa was a “soul harvester” who proselytised among the poor, and that she and her followers surreptitiously baptised the dying without their knowledge.

Aroup Chatterjee, a doctor, grew up in Kolkata and now works in the UK. He is one of Mother Teresa’s most vocal critics.

Many rogues have become Catholic saints. What bothers me is that the world makes such a song and dance about a superstitious, black magic ceremony. It’s obvious that people are duped, they have a herd mentality. But the media has a responsibility not to collude with it.

He has described Mother Teresa as “a medieval creature of darkness” and a “bogus and fantastic figure” who went unchallenged by the world’s media.

According to his 2003 book, Mother Teresa: The Final Verdict, based on the testimonies of scores of people who worked with the Missionaries of Charity, the medical care given to sick and dying people was negligible. Syringes were reused without sterilisation, pain relief was non-existent or inadequate, and conditions were unhygienic. Meanwhile, Mother Teresa spent much of her time travelling around the world in a private plane to meet political leaders.

Similar criticisms were made by the late writer Christopher Hitchens in his book, The Missionary Position. Mother Teresa was, he wrote:

A religious fundamentalist, a political operative, a primitive sermoniser, and an accomplice of worldly secular powers.

The focus of the nun’s work, he said:

Was not the honest relief of suffering but the promulgation of a cult based on death and suffering and subjection.

Among those cited by Hitchens was Susan Shields, a former worker with the Missionaries of Charity, who claimed that vast sums of money accrued in bank accounts but very little was spent on medical expertise or making the lives of the sick and dying more comfortable.

Three years ago, a study by academics at the University of Montreal concluded that the Vatican had ignored Mother Teresa’s:

Rather dubious way of caring for the sick, her questionable political contacts, her suspicious management of the enormous sums of money she received, and her overly dogmatic views regarding … abortion, contraception and divorce.

After several years of ill health, Mother Teresa died on September 5, 1997 aged 87, and was given a state funeral by the Indian government. Demands for her canonisation began almost immediately.

Two years after her death, the Vatican began the process of beatification, the first stage of becoming a saint. In 2002, the Vatican recognised the “miracle cure” of an Indian woman who had prayed to Mother Teresa about her cancer, though the woman’s husband and doctors said the cancer had been treated with drugs.

Last year, Pope Francis recognised a second miracle attributed to Mother Teresa, clearing the way for her canonisation

Fatal NY church beating: woman jailed for 25 years

Added September 3, 2016

Sarah Ferguson, 33, above, who was found guilty of manslaughter in July following the death of her half-brother at the Word of Life Christian Church in New York, was sentenced this week to 25 years’ imprisonment.

According to this report, Judge Michael Dwyer – presiding over the trial in Oneida County court – found Ferguson guilty of first-degree manslaughter of her half-brother, Lucas Leonard, 19, but cleared her on the second-degree murder charge.

She also was found guilty by the judge of two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of gang assault on Lucas Leonard and her other half-brother, 17-year-old Christopher Leonard, who was injured in the attack.

The brothers’ parents, who both participated in the beatings, both accepted plea deals and will get shorter sentences. Bruce Leonard will get 15 to 16 years in prison. His wife, Deborah Leonard will get no more than five years in prison.

Ferguson sobbed audibly as she tried to make a statement.

“I truly am sorry … oh my God,” she said as she cried out. She then said she truly loved her brothers.

Lucas Leonard, left, and his surviving brother Christopher, who was severely injured.

Lucas Leonard, left, and his surviving brother Christopher, who was severely injured.

Ferguson admitted during her trial to taking part in the beating that killed Lucas and severely injured Christopher, pictured above.

Dwyer said that Ferguson took it upon herself to be “judge, jury and executioner” on her brothers and the bottom line is that she killed her brother.

It’s inconceivable to me that during this whole incident no one was the voice of reason. No said tried to stop this. No one said enough is enough.

District attorney, Scott McNamara, said Ferguson should receive the same mercy her brothers got and pointed out that she flogged her two brothers in the genital area to cause as much pain as she could.

This is the most malicious, callous and brutal beating I have ever seen.

It was alleged by the family that the two victims had been punished for sexually assaulting Ferguson’s children.

Nine defendants from the church were charged with beating the two young men for hours on October 11, 2015 in the New Hartford church as part of a “counseling session”. Lucas Leonard wasn’t taken to the hospital until the next day; a doctor testified he could have lived if treated sooner.

Deborah Leonard and Bruce Leonard both described in court how they and Ferguson beat and whipped Lucas and Christopher Leonard with an electrical cord. Ferguson admitted that she also whipped the two young men.

Bruce Leonard testified that his sons were whipped to punish them and get them to confess to accusations that they molested Sarah’s children and another teen.

During the trial, Christopher Leonard testified that he “inappropriately” touched Ferguson’s children, but did not rape or sexually abuse anyone.

Ferguson testified that the brothers confessed to raping one of her children and abusing other children. The prosecution questioned whether Ferguson was telling the truth about the abuse.

The remaining defendants are scheduled to go on trial in October.

Dodgy ministry sold ‘miracle’ Aldi olive oil at a huge profit

Added September 2, 2016

Bog standard supermarket olive oil was sold as a ‘miracle’ cure by a UK charity linked to controversial preacher Gilbert Deya, above.

The self-styled “archbishop”, according to this report, is notorious charlatan who has spent ten years battling an extradition to his native Kenya, where he is alleged to have trafficked babies out of Kenya.

He has claimed that he would face political violence and inhumane treatment if sent back to Kenya.

Meanwhile the Charity Commission has opened a statutory inquiry into the Gilbert Deya Ministries, which runs a church at Hulme Hippodrome, in Manchester.

The watchdog hopes to address concerns about safeguarding policies, practices and procedures at the charity which arose following the arrest of one of its trustees in 2014.

Earlier this year it was reported that a church within the Ministries group was selling £1.99 Aldi olive oil as a miracle cure for cancer and HIV.

The product was allegedly re-sold at a church shop in south London for £5.

The inquiry will examine the administration, governance and management of the charity by the trustees as well as safeguarding policies, procedures and practices.

It will also look into the circumstances relating to the alleged sale of olive oil.

A statement on the commission’s website reads:

The regulator has been trying to address a number of these concerns with the trustees, who have failed to report serious incidents to the commission and to provide adequate responses to the questions raised.

The regulator also has concerns that the charity may have been selling olive oil to which it attributed healing qualities. The regulator is concerned that such activity may be in breach of relevant regulations and law.

The probe comes after Deya visited Manchester for “7 days of unusual miracles” earlier this month.

When approached by the Manchester Evening News outside the venue, its reporter was turned away by Deya who refused to let the media witness any of his speech or miracles.

He said:

The media is evil, they are all liars, they write lies.

Although Mr Deya leads the church it is understood he was removed from the charity’s board several years ago.

Actor Gene Wilder, chocolate – and the eternal flames of hell

Added September 1, 2016

Yesterday, the world lost a great entertainer. Gene Wilder, best known for his role in the original 1971 version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, died aged 83.

And if we are to believe Christian blogger David J Stewart, Wilder is today being consumed by the flames of hell, and missing out on God’s Great Chocolate Factory.

Heaven is a real place far greater than Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. The Bible’s description of Heaven in Revelation 21 far exceeds the fictitious movie …  Heaven has gates of pearl and streets of gold (Revelation 21:21). Do you really think that God doesn’t have chocolate in Heaven? … I know that there will be edible things all around us, if that’s what you want, just as in the Willie Wonka factory.

In 2014, Stewart, a dedicated fan of Wilder, discovered to his horror that the actor had described himself as  a “Jewish-Buddhist-Atheist”.

Sadly Gene Wilder is a professed atheist. This just goes to prove that there are many moral people, good and decent souls, who are still unsaved in their sins and bound for the Lake of Fire for all eternity without Jesus Christ. It is tragic! Gene Wilder is living in the 59th minute of the 11th hour before midnight, and the smell of the Bottomless Pit surrounds him. I do not say this to be unkind, but truthful.

The Holy Bible is God’s inspired Word. Mr Wilder denies Jesus as His Savior. The Bible warns in 1st John 2:22-23, “Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.”

Being Jewish does not entitled (sic) anyone to eternal life. Buddhism is a satanic false religion. Jesus plainly said in John 3:5-7, “YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN”!

His mention of Buddhism bring me round to a new highly-praised animated move called Kubo and the Two Strings.

Highly praised by all except Abbie DeHaas, who writes for the Christian site Movieguide.  Under the headline “Are Children Being Fed Humanism”, DeHaas says:

Individuality rules our culture. It’s assumed that you will know your own destiny and follow it accordingly. This is a dangerous philosophy for anyone, especially children, since we know that God holds our future, and we need not worry about being in control.

Sadly, this humanistic thought is one of the strong themes and messages of the animated movie Kubo and the Two Strings from Laika animation studios.

kubo-and-the-two-strings-image-monkey

Director Travis Knight, CEO of Laika animation studios, said his mission is to make movies that matter, and to:

Tell stories that were rich, evocative, thematically challenging, and have something meaningful to say about what it means to be human.

Said DeHaas

Those ‘aspects of the human condition’, as shown in Kubo are the importance of family and appreciation for the pain and suffering that comes along with being human. Sadly, though, these somewhat positive qualities are coupled with an anti-Christian message that we should simply accept the pain of this world without striving toward eternity. Perfection is portrayed as something cold and evil, as opposed to the joyous gift we are promised through Christ’s saving grace.

MovieGuide’s review of the movie warns that it is:

A dangerous intro to Buddhism and atheist thinking.

And it concludes:

The movie’s frightening and dark moments are enough to warrant caution for children. Even worse, however, is the movie’s blatant Buddhism as well as a secondary message against eternal life. Thankfully, Kub has some moral, redemptive elements, but media-wise families should avoid the movie’s false non-Christian worldview and messages.

Atheism has ancient roots and is not ‘modern invention’

Added April 1, 2016

Atheism is not a modern invention from the western Enlightenment, but actually dates back to the ancient world, according to a new book by a Cambridge academic – which challenges the assumption that humanity is naturally predisposed to believe in gods.

In Battling the Gods, Tim Whitmarsh, professor of Greek culture at Cambridge University, lays out a series of examples showing that atheism existed in polytheistic ancient Greece. It is, according to its author, partly “an attempt to excavate ancient atheism from underneath the rubble heaped on it by millennia of Christian opprobrium”.

Early atheists were making what seem to be universal objections about the paradoxical nature of religion. Disbelief in the supernatural is as old as the hills. It is only through profound ignorance of the classical tradition that anyone ever believed that 18th-century Europeans were the first to battle the gods.

“We tend to see atheism as an idea that has only recently emerged in secular western societies. The rhetoric used to describe it is hyper-modern. In fact, early societies were far more capable than many since of containing atheism within the spectrum of what they considered normal,” said Whitmarsh.

“Rather than making judgments based on scientific reason, these early atheists were making what seem to be universal objections about the paradoxical nature of religion – the fact that it asks you to accept things that aren’t intuitively there in your world. The fact that this was happening thousands of years ago suggests that forms of disbelief can exist in all cultures, and probably always have.”

In the fourth century BC, he points to Plato, as the philosopher imagines a believer chastising an atheist:

“You and your friends are not the first to have held this view about the gods! There are always those who suffer from this illness, in greater or lesser numbers.”

“We may balk at his disease imagery,”

writes Whitmarsh,

“but Plato was surely right in his general point. There have been many throughout history and across all cultures who have resisted belief in the divine.”

Because you disbelieved things that are not unbelievable, your name from now on shall be Disbeliever (Apistos)
The god Asclepius, to a man who mocked miracle cures
These range from Carneades, head of the Platonic academy in the second century BC, who argued that

“belief in gods is illogical”,

to the Epicureans, who were often called atheoi in antiquity, and the atheistic writings of Xenophanes of Colophon.

Whitmarsh argues that the diversity of ancient Greece’s polytheistic societies meant there was no such thing as religious orthodoxy, and no clergy laying out how people should live. This meant, he said, that while atheism could be viewed as mistaken, it was usually tolerated – although not in the case of Socrates, who was executed in Athens for “not recognising the gods of the city.

Ehdotus lukion opetuksen järkiperäistämiseksi

Suomen Ateistiyhdistys ry. kannattaa kaikkien mielipideaineiden poistamista kouluista. Erityisesti oman uskonnon opetus on mielipideopetusta.
